Council for animal ethics meeting attended on Ås

Yesterday I attended the meeting of Norway´s Council for animal ethics, at Norwegian Veterinary Institute´s new localities on Ås.

Today I have attended an appointments committee meeting via Skype related to a position as head of department.

Meeting with animal protection NGOs to prepare council work

Today I took part in a meeting at the Norwegian Animal Protection Alliance (Dyrevernalliansen) with them, The Norwegian Society for Protection of Animals (Dyrebeskyttelsen) and Guri Larsen, currently deputy representative for animal protection organizations in the Norwegian Council of Animal Ethics (Rådet for dyreetikk), to discuss my role as representative for animal protection NGOs there.

Planning meeting attended

Today I have attended a brief planning meeting at Department of Social Studies in relation to the March personnel trip.

Today I participated in another planning meeting for the Reykjavik personnel trip of University of Stavanger's Department of social studies, which will take place March 24-27th 2015.

Staff meeting attended; member of work group planning personell trip abroad

Today I have attended the personell gathering/meeting at University of Stavanger's Department of social studies. 

I volunteered to be a member of a work group that will plan a 2-day personell seminar/gathering abroad which will take place next Spring.

Meeting of editorial board of Biosemiotics attended

On Thursday July 3rd, during the 14th International Gathering in Biosemiotics (London, 30th of June to 4th of July), I attended the first in-person meeting of the editorial board of the journal Biosemiotics, for which I am one of three Editors-in-Chief. The meeting was chaired by Alexei Sharov.

Metting on Norwegian Animal Ethics Conference 2014 attended

Today I took part in a meeting of the organizing committee of the Norwegian Animal Ethics Conference 2014 (Dyreetikkonferansen 2014). Ahead of the meeting I had proposed a budget - the budget was revised slightly following the meeting. I am furthermore responsible for registration and related communications.

Master meeting attended September 2013

On September 24th last autumn I took part in the regular master meeting at University of Stavanger's Department of health studies.

Meeting on Norwegian Animal Ethics Conference 2014

On January 21st I took part in another meeting (telephone conference) of the organizing team of the Norwegian Animal Ethics Conference 2014. Among other things we decided what kind of venue we'll use. The webpage will soon be updated.

UiS, October 1st: Meeting and course

Tuesday last week I attended a meeting at University of Stavanger's Department of health studies for teachers responsible for subjects to be given next Spring (in my case Examen Philosophicum in the web-based bachelor in nursing), and a 1-hour course in "EpN" (Emne på Nett [subjects online]).

Meeting on Norwegian Animal Ethics Conference; to chair morning session

Today I took part, by phone, in a meeting of the organizers of the Norwegian Animal Ethics Conference 2013. 

Among several other clarifications, it was confirmed that I will chair the morning session of the one-day conference, which takes place in Oslo on August 22nd.

Meeting on second Norwegian animal ethics conference; revised theme

Wednesday last week I took part in a phone meeting with the other organisers of the second Norwegian animal ethics conference - Dyreetikkonferansen - which will be arranged August 22nd in Oslo. Several details remain to be figured out, but we are expecting to get much in place the next few weeks.

Semester opening and more at University of Stavanger

Tuesday August 14th I was present in the audience in Tjodhallen during the official semester opening at the University of Stavanger. The program included speeches by rector Marit Boyesen, mayor of Stavanger Christine Sagen, and others, stand up, and musical performances. The main speech was given by Ketil Solvik-Olsen, a member of parliament who is also the deputy Chair of Norway's right-wing party Fremskrittspartiet (The progress party). Incidentally Solvik-Olsen referred to Stavanger's role as the Norwegian "oil capital", and suggested that he was sure there were "philosophers in the room who would think that simply praising the oil industry [or something to that effect] was very cynical." Sic.

After the opening ceremony I proceeded to a master degree meeting at the Department of Health Studies, where the agenda concerned the soon-to-come opening of the master program for 1st year students, and the inflow of students.
