Lectures, seminar given in Theory of science MA course

Today I have taught, for the first time, in the master course Theory of science (MSO120), which is offered by the University of Stavanger´s Department of social studies. The topic was introduction to philosophy of science and theory of science, and the teaching included 3 hours of lectures and a one hour seminar. Some 17 students attended.

This Autumn semester I am course coordinator (i.e., "emneansvarlig") for two courses, namely the abovementioned course Theory of science as well as Examen Philosophicum (Ex.Phil.) at Department of psychology.

I have just given 3 explanations of grading in Examen Philosophicum at Department of social studies (following Christmas grading).

I have been informed by Universitetsforlaget that the book Ex.Phil. for sosialfag will appear as e-book this autumn.

Exam work - Ex.phil.

Last week I composed exam questions for the continuation exams in Ex.Phil. at Department of social studies - home exam, plus Multiple Choice. 

Today I took part in complaint grading (another exam paper) in Ex.phil.

6 hours of Ex.phil. teaching; adjusted seminar arrangement

Today I have taught for 6 hours consecutively in Examen Philosophicum at Department of social studies - first the second lecture, and then the two first rounds of the first of six seminars.

Compared with earlier years I have adjusted the seminar arrangement somewhat with 15 minutes used for Q & A or repetition based on student questions. There are also a discussion, as before, and work with Multiple Choice questions, as before (but with half an hour only now for the last task).

Letter to the editor on Ex.phil. published

My letter to the editor published as "Samfunnet trenger generalister" appeared in Stavanger Aftenblad in print last Friday, and online today. It is part of an ongoing debate about Examen philosophicum, Norway´s introductory course in philosophy.

Today I presented basic information about Ex.Phil. to child welfare students at Department of social studies, University of Stavanger. I was accompanied by my oldest son.

Ex.Phil. for sosialfag received

Today I received a copy of Ex.Phil. for sosialfag (2nd edition), which I have edited, and which is on sale from now onwards. It defines compulsory readings in Examen Philosophicum at Department of social studies.

Ex.Phil. anthology advertised online

I see that the edited anthology Ex.Phil. for sosialfag (second edition) is being advertised online, for a price of 649 NOK. It is expected in sale August 1st.

Preface and introduction for Ex.Phil. anthology written

Last night (sic) I finished a brief introduction and the preface for the Ex.Phil. anthology that Universitetsforlaget will publish this autumn (Ex.Phil. for sosialfag).

Chapter selection for new Ex.Phil. anthology

Yesterday i finished selecting chapters for a new edition of Ex.Phil. for sosialfag, edited by me this time (last version was edited by Jon Vegar Hugaas), to be published by Universitetsforlaget this autumn.

The anthology will feature a chapter by me ("Menneskeveldet") as well as an introductory chapter written by me, in addition to 15 other chapters.

Talk and discussion on Ex.Phil. at UiS leadership strategy seminar

Yesterday I gave a brief invited talk on perspectives on Examen Philosophicum at a strategy seminar for the leadership of University of Stavanger (rector, all deans, and a few more people in key positions), at Clarion hotel in town. My fellow philosopher Tarjer Mandt Larsen also attended and took part in the ensuing discussion.

I have just graded 9 exam papers for the continuation exam in Examen Philosophicum (home exam) at Department of social studies.

To edit new/revised Ex.Phil. anthology

I have agreed with Universitetsforlaget that I will work to prepare a new, part revised and part expanded, version of their Ex.Phil. anthology for social studies. Chapter selection and writing of a new introduction must be in place within a few months.

Complaint grading done

A few days ago I graded 8 home exam papers in Examen Philosophicum in a round of complaint grading, along with an external grader.
