CRISTIN registrations for 2024: 39 posts; overview

I have just completed registrations in the Current Research Information System in Norway (CRISTIN) for 2024 (cf. my profile in CRISTIN). I registered 39 posts; all-time I have now registered 395 posts (since 2012, i.e. over 13 years, which means on average 30-31 posts per year). This is quite many posts though not quite as many as in 2019, when I registered 44 posts.

The activities I registered included 9 scientific publications, 7 of which should give "publication points" in the Norwegian system. This includes 2 book chapters I wrote by myself, 3 co-written book chapters in the book Mars and the Earthlings, and 2 full-length journal articles, one of which I wrote by myself and 1 I co-authored, as well as a short communication and a co-authored editorial for a special issue I was one of the guest editors of. 

Other activities included 4 festival appearances (on Wonderful world and Kåkånomics, both in Stavanger),  2 radio interviews, 3 interviews in Khrono, 5 scientific conference presentations (3 of which online, 2 in-person), 3 guest lectures (2 in Italy, 1 in Slovenia), and 1 co-authored consultative statement written for Norway´s Council for animal ethics.

Interviewed on treatment of animals on NRK P2´s Ekko, with Andreas Haga

Today I was interviewed on NRK P2´s radio program Ekko, along with Andreas Haga, with Rikke Eckoff as program manager, on why we treat animals so differently. I was presented as Professor of philosophy at University of Stavanger, and a member of Norway´s Council for animal ethics. The section, which was recorded live, lasts for some 20 minutes.

Today I have attended 3 scheduled meetings and a radio interview - as part of a panel during "spørretimen" in NRK P2´s Ekko, "Mennesket - dyrenes beste venn?" (humans - the animals´ best friends?) with Jan Erlend Leine as program host and Kristian Dalskau-Ellingsen and Ragnhild Sollund as the other panel guests.

Radio interview on and while walking aired again on NRK P2

TV/radio interview on legal killing of wildlife aired October 8th 2019

On October 8th 2019 I was interviewed live in the NRK program "Dagsnytt 18", which airs on national TV (NRK2) and is also broadcast on national radio (NRK P2). The segment was called "Flere småfugler kan skytes" (More small birds may be shot). Representing University of Stavanger and Norway´s Council for animal ethics, I was interviewed by Gry Elisabeth Veiby along with Christian Steel (SABIMA).

Verdibørsen interview on how we talk about fish

Today I was interviewed live, along with veterinarian Stine Gismervik, on NRK P2´s Verdibørsen (national public radio), in the segment "Fiskevelferd og språk" (Fish welfare and language). Program host was Anne Bøhler. The program can be heard here. The segment lasts some 20 minutes.

Sixth Verdibørsen appearance this year - on aquaculture

Today I appeared on NRK P2´s Verdibørsen for the sixth time this year, in the segment "Oppdrettsfisk i entall". I was interviewed, along with Lisa Bergan (Cermaq) and Øyvind Håbrekke (the think tank Skaperkraft), by Karen Frivik. Program host was Jostein Gjertsen.

In the program I am presented as working at "Høyskolen i Agder" (the University college of Agder - which became the University of Agder some 10 years ago), but in fact I work at the University of Stavanger.

Verdibørsen interview on "humanity in puberty" aired

An interview with me aired on Verdibørsen earlier today, titled "Menneskeheten i puberteten" (Humanity in puberty). In the interview I relate to Arne Næss´ thoughts about war and peace and the long-term maturing of humanity, admit to occasionally longing for a new civilization, and identify as a liberal deep ecologist. Program host Jostein Gjertsen presents the interview as Verdibørsen´s contribution to Forskningsdagene, an event which this year has "oppvekst" (childhood, upbringing) as theme.

Today I was interviewed by Jostein Gjertsen on characterizations of humanity as being at a teenage stage of development.

Terraforming Mars? Discussion aired on P2´s Verdibørsen

On March 22nd NRK P2´s Verdibørsen, with program host Jostein Gjertsen, included a 25 minute feature with me and Ingvil Førland Hellstrand entitled "Muligheten av Mars", on terraforming Mars. Podcast is available here.

Mentioned on NRK Rogaland radio

On February 8th I was mentioned on NRK Rogaland radio in a story about Eli Glader´s video art exhibition Vitner on Sølvberget Galleri, in connection with the three lectures I am giving in relation to the exhibition.

Interview on GPS-tagging of wolves to air on Swedish radio April 4th

On March 8th I was interviewed by Sweden´s Vetenskapsradion [science radio], at Sveriges Radio, the Swedish public radio, along with Katarina Cvek (Djurförsöksetiska nämnden Uppsala, SLU) - see below. I have been informed by Sara Sällström, who conducted the interview, that it will likely air Monday April 4th at 12.10, in the program "Vetandets värld" [the world of knowledge], on channel P1.

Yesterday, attending Vargsymposiet [The wolf symposium], I was interviewed by Sweden´s Vetenskapsradion [science radio], along with Katarina Cvek (Djurförsöksetiska nämnden Uppsala, SLU). Vetenskapsradion is part of Sveriges Radio, the Swedish public radio. The topic we discussed was first and foremost (the ethics of) GPS-tagging of wolves.

Norwegian Animal Ethics Conference featured on national radio

On August 20th The Norwegian Animal Ethics Conference (Dyreetikkonferansen) 2014, which is co-organised by Minding Animals Norway, was featured on national broadcaster NRK P1's afternoon program "Her og nå", with interviews with Tore Kristiansen and Gudbrand Bakken. Radio - comments on the vulnerability of our modern monetary economy

As announced yesterday, I appeared on NRK P1 Sørlandet, a public regional Norwegian radio channel, this morning, concerning a bank strike which eventually did not materialize. Nevertheless June 6th - yesterday - was a historical day, as Norwegians have never withdrawn as much cash as yesterday on one and the same day. My perspective on a possible bank strike was threefold:

a) how we have come to depend on our monetary economy, and in effect spread this dependence globally through our development/aid policy (because we regard cultures without monetary economy as uncivilized)
b) how people deal with such modern shocks, being creative when in need (though such flexibility is more achievable in many 'less developed' economies, which are, ironically, less vulnerable in this respect)
c) the ways in which a contemporary bank strike would hit society compared to earlier bank strikes (e.g. 1976), illustrating our increased dependence on monetary economy and technology in our modern economy of scale

I was introduced as philosopher with master (hovedfag) in philosophy and a PhD underway in semiotics.
