I am mentioned in an intranet news story published by University of Stavanger on the forthcoming 2026 version of the philosophy and science festival "Wonderful World".
During the festival I will chair two events and participate in conversation with Melanie Challenger (see "Upcoming academic events" in the top margins). I am further a member of the festival´s program council.
About a week ago, philosopher Espen Gamlund and the University of Bergen launched the video series "Etiske dilemmaer" (Ethical dilemmas) on Viten-TV, a Norwegian online platform for academic video content. The first episode, "Dyr" (Animals), features interviews with me, Stefan Riedener and Aksel Braanen Sterri, while Gamlund acts as presenter and interviewer.
The Norwegian daily newspaper Nationen has a 2-page news story about the Norwegian animal ethics conference 2024 (Dyreetikkonferansen 2024) which took place last week with animal consciousness as theme. The news story features an image and quotes from my presentation. In the image caption I am quoted as saying that our understanding of other beings is always somewhat limited.
Until last evening - Wednesday March 6th - the two stories on Khrono featuring me, including my letter to the editor, was among the 5 most-read stories there. From this morning onwards they were out of the most-read list. The news story featuring an interview with me was among Khrono´s 5 most-read stories from Wednesday February 28th to Wednesday March 6th (8 days). My letter to the editor was among the 5 most-read stories on Khrono from Friday March 1st to Wednesday March 6th (6 days).

New Khrono follow-up story; two stories still among 5 most-read
Khrono has published a follow-up news story to the news story published Wednesday featuring an interview with me on the University of Stavanger´s suggested guidelines for work planning. The news story is titled "Guro Lind: — Dette er en farlig vei å gå og jeg blir dypt bekymret" (Guro Lind: This is a dangerous path to go down and I am deeply concerned), and features comments by Guro Lind, Head of the Norwegian trade union Forskerforbundet, a trade union for researchers, as well as by professor Tony Burner. The news story also refers to comments made to the original story on Khrono and Facebook. The new story links to the original story, and to my related letter to the editor, but does not mention me by name.

Today a letter to the editor of mine, «Høyskolevisjonen» for UiS, has been published in Khrono, a Norwegian higher education online news outlet.
Khrono has simultaneously published a news story featuring an interview with me, Vil spare penger ved å kutte i forskningstiden (Wants to save money by cutting research time), written by journalist Eva Tønnessen. Today I have had half a writing day of sorts, devoted to exploring further mentions of my article "Wasted GDP in the USA", cf. the two previous posts about media and Twitter appearances.
My chronicle "Ut og skyte ulv" (Out shooting wolves), which was published in print more than a week ago, appeared online yesterday in the Norwegian national daily VG.
Today I have attended 3 scheduled meetings and a radio interview - as part of a panel during "spørretimen" in NRK P2´s Ekko, "Mennesket - dyrenes beste venn?" (humans - the animals´ best friends?) with Jan Erlend Leine as program host and Kristian Dalskau-Ellingsen and Ragnhild Sollund as the other panel guests.
Today, on the year´s last official workday, I have had 2 scheduled appointments, including an interview with the magazine Genialt by journalist Truls Petersen of the Norwegian Biotechnology Advisory Board. The topic was nature views.
I am mentioned in a recent news story from the Norwegian alt right online newssite Resett, in the news story "Klimarealistene lanserte nytt vitenskapelig tidsskrift – ble refset av rektor Klaus Mohn" by Jon Gulbrandsen. In the text it says I was one of the speakers at Klimarealistene´s meeting at University of Stavanger Tuesday this week. For the record, what I did was make a comment and ask a question from the audience (the only such question at the event). Also, there are multiple errors with regard to how Resett presents my affiliation.
I am indirectly referred to, though not mentioned by name, in the news story "Brøt loven ved ansettelse av instituttleder" (broke the law when head of department was hired") published this afternoon in the Norwegian higher education online newspaper Khrono. The news story refers to the university board´s treatment of the announcement and hiring process, and the fact that the composition of the appointments committee was not in accordance with the Norwegian law concerning gender balance. This was only made clear as the Ministry of Culture replied to a question from the university on September 11th, the day after I was hired. In Spring, I was the only man in the appointments committee, versus four women. In autumn, I withdrew from the appointments committee as I decided to apply for the position as head of department at Department of social studies. After that point the appointments committee consisted of five women, without any male.
The HR director at University of Stavanger stated to the board that the university´s practice will now have to change with regard to gender balance in appointments committees, but that the hiring of me is valid and stands.
