Council for animal ethics meeting attended

Today I have attended the first meeting of the newly appointed Council for animal ethics (in Norway), at Thon hotel Opera in Oslo. I represent animal protection NGOs in the council.

Reappointed a member of Council for animal ethics for the period 2023-2027

Today I was informed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food that I have been reappointed to Norway´s Council for animal ethics, where I have served since 2017, for the period 2023-2027, as a representative for the animal protection NGOs. The appointment is valid from July 18th 2023 (i.e., today) until June 30th 2027.

First meeting of new Council for animal ethics

Today I have attended the first meeting of Norway´s new Council for Animal Ethics (appointed for a 4 year period, starting now), a full-day meeting. The new council leader is Knut Bøe (NMBU), Kristian Ellingsen remains the council secretary. I represent the animal protection NGOs, with Guri Larsen being deputy representative. The council members are appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

Appointed as member of Norway´s Council for animal ethics 2019-2023

Today I have been notified by Norway´s Ministry of Agriculture and Food that I have been appointed as a member of Council for Animal Ethics for the period July 1st 2019 to June 30th 2023 as the representative for animal protection NGOs, with Guri Larsen as deputy member. I served in the same position 2017-2018.

Continued interest in Council of Animal Ethics

I have signaled that I am interested in remaining a member of Norway´s Council for Animal Ethics, where I currently represent animal protection NGOs (since 2017). Animal protection NGOs make suggestions to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (two sets of candidates), whereas the Ministry appoints members of the council. The next period officially starts January 1st 2019.

Council for animal ethics statement mentioned in Dyrevern viten

The latest Dyrevernalliansen email newsletter, Dyrevern Viten, makes mention of and links to Norway´s Council for animal ethics´ statement on tagging of wild animals, which I drafted (under the heading "Viltmerking ute av kontroll").

Interviewed on whaling by Süddeutsche Zeitung

A feature story in Süddeutsche Zeitung on whaling, titled "Die letzten Jäger" and featuring an interview with me in capacity as Norwegian Green Party politician, was published in no. 167, 2017, Samstag/Sonntag 22./23. Juli. In the article I am referred to as "Tierschutz-Sprecher der Partei" (the animal protection spokesman of the party). The same article appears to have been published also by the Swiss newspaper Der Bund (July 27th), likely also Tagesanzeiger.

Not able to attend first Council for animal ethics meeting

I have given notice that I cannot attend the excursion and meeting of Norway´s Council for animal ethics, which I have just joined as a regular member representing animal protection NGOs. This is due to teaching obligations at University of Stavanger.

Planning of Skopje stakeholder workshop

Today I attended a meeting via Skype in relation to planning of a stakeholder workshop to be held in Skopje, Macedonia on June 8th by the COST action GroupHouseNet (Synergy for preventing damaging behaviour in group housed pigs and chickens).

Interviewed by animal protection magazine Dyrenes forsvarer

I am featured in an interview in Dyrenes forsvarer, the magazine of Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge [Animal Protection Norway], no. 2/2015 (pp. 12-13). The story is titled "Hvem frykter ulven? Om frykt og netthat" [Who is afraid of the wolf? On fear and online hate]. I am interviewed in capacity of being Associate professor in philosophy at University of Stavanger and chair of Minding Animals Norway.

Animal protection book review revised

A few days ago I revised my book review of Rune Ellefsen's book  Med lov til å pine: Om bruk og beskyttelse av dyr, an academic, Norwegian animal protection book. No major changes, mainly a few clarifications.

Norwegian Animal Protection Day to be held March 21st 2015; venue; homepage

It has now been decided that Dyreverndagen (Norwegian Animal Protection Day) 2015 will take place at DogA in Oslo on Saturday March 21st 2015. Events include an inspirational seminar and evening party with prize ceremony. Dyreverndagen is arranged by a work group sorting under Minding Animals Norway.
