Region Stavanger´s Ambassador Prize 2018 received for organizing NASS XI

On Thursday March 21st I attended the "ambassador reception" of Region Stavanger, enjoyed a 2-course meal, and received Region Stavanger´s "Ambassador Prize for 2018" for organizing the 11th conference of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies (held in June 2019). About a dozen people received such prizes this evening.

The prize consists of a diploma and a statue of sorts. 

Minding Animals Award 2015 to Bergljot Børresen

On Saturday March 21st, during Dyreverndagen (the Norwegian Animal Protection Day) at DogA in Oslo, the Norwegian Minding Animals Award 2015 was presented. Being the Chair of Minding Animals Norway, I was presenting the award on behalf of the jury. The prize, which consisted of an artwork by Ksenia Aksenova and a diploma, was awarded to Bergljot Børresen, a Norwegian veterinarian who has written extensively about human-animal relations, particularly on domestic animals, and challenged anthropocentric notions. The prize was received by Marianne Melgaard on Børresen´s behalf.

Norwegian Animal Protection Day held in Oslo

On Saturday March 21st I attended Dyreverndagen (the Norwegian Animal Protection Day) at DogA in Oslo. The event was organised by a working group sorting under Minding Animals Norway, consisting of some 15 volunteers. Some 170 people attended the event, which consisted of a seminar at day-time and a party/concert with award ceremonies in the evening.

I was on stage at two occasions - first at the end of the seminar, when I surprised project leader Hilde Valbjørn Hagelin with a bouquet of flowers. And then in the evening, I presented the winner of the 2015 Minding Animals award.

Minding Animals Norway board meeting attended; award plans discussed

Monday February 9th I attended and chaired the regular board meeting og Minding Animals Norway. We had several events and activities to discuss, including plans for the first Minding Animals award.

Norwegian Animal Protection Day 2015 sponsored by REMA 1000

Appointed member of student grant and prize committee for NASS IX

At the board meeting of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies (NASS) in mid-November I was appointed as one of the members of a student grant and prize committee in relation to the conference NASS IX, which will be held in Tartu, Estonia, August 17-20th 2015.

Re-designed homepage for Norwegian Animal Protection Day

Dyreverndagen [the Norwegian Animal Protection Day], to be held in Oslo March 21st 2014, now has a re-designed homepage. Kudos to Hipp Hurra.

Animal protection award ceremony in Oslo attended

Monday evening I attended the award event of Dag S. Stiansens stiftelse, Stiansen-prisen, at Grand Hotel in Oslo, on behalf of Minding Animals Norway (along with three others). NORECOPA, working for replacement, reduction and refinement of animal experiments, got this year's award. Minding Animals Norway and other receivers of project funding (MAN got funding for the Norwegian Animal Ethics Conference 2014) from the foundation were also celebrated, and given flowers.

Norwegian Animal Welfare Day postponed

The Norwegian Animal Welfare day - "Dyreverndagen" in Norwegian - which is to be arranged in Oslo by a working group under Minding Animals Norway, will not be held April 26th 2014 at Ingensteds, as originally planned, but at some later point, likely early 2015. While the initiator Simen Mørstad Johansen continues in the working group as Program officer, Hilde Valbjørn Hagelin is taking over the leadership of the working group.

Minding Animals Norway: Members email distributed; newsletter to appear

In the end of January a members' email (2 pp.) that I had composed was distributed to all members of Minding Animals Norway. Contents included info about media appearances, preliminary plans/ambitions for an annual awards ceremony, info about the Norwegian Animal ethics conference 2012 (already held) and 2013 (upcoming, August 22), and about Minding Animals Norway's newly established gift account.

 

The next comparable transmission will be in the form of a newsletter, in PDF format. Such newsletters will be issued by Minding Animals Norway approximately four times a year. The first one is due really soon.
