My fourth Live Better article forthcoming

I have been notified that another article emerging from the LIve Better research consortium, featuring me as a co-author based on data collection in Norway, has been accepted for publication and is forthcoming in Emotion.

Dialogue meeting with Norwegian Food Safety Authority on animal welfare regulations in aquaculture attended

Today I have attended an online "Dialogue meeting" with Mattilsynet (the Norwegian Food Safety Authority) in relation to their ongoing work on regulatory development concerning animal welfare in aquaculture. I attended as one of the representatives of Norway´s Council for Animal Ethics, along with the council´s Secretary, Lina Ahlén and three others. Three animal welfare/rights organizations also took part.

Consultative meeting attended for Council for animal ethics at Norway´s Ministry of Finance

Today I attended a meeting at the Norwegian Ministry of Finance, in Oslo, representing Norway´s Council for animal ethics (along with the council´s secretary Lina Ahlén and chair Knut E. Bøe) in a consultation a committe that is tasked with suggesting changes to the ethics framework of the Norwegian "oil fund" (formally called Government Pension Fund Global, or Statens Pensjonsfond Utland in Norwegian) organized with selected civil society organizations. Lina and I jointly presented "SPU og dyrevelferd" (Government Pension Fund Global and animal welfare), with definitions, information and recommendations addressed to the committee.

Today I have had an article writing day, with work done related to the article "Når gode råd er plagsomme" (When good advice is bothersome) which I co-write with Svein Tuastad. This included continuing conducting the media search and analysis related to the article´s climate policy case study.  This brings the number of writing days so far this Spring up to 12,5, including 8,5 article writing days.

Today I have had an article writing day, with work done related to the article "Når gode råd er plagsomme" (When good advice is bothersome) which I co-write with Svein Tuastad. This included continuing conducting the media search and analysis related to the article´s climate policy case study.

This brings the number of writing days so far this Spring up to 11,5, including 7,5 article writing days.

Today I have had half an article writing day, with some 200 words added to the article "Når gode råd er plagsomme" (When good advice is bothersome) which I co-write with Svein Tuastad. Moreover, I looked into a revised version of a Live Better article manuscript. Finally; I prepared and submitted the manuscript "Kan velferd og miljø måles i forlengelsen av BNP?", which I have co-written with Jan Karlstrøm, to Samfunn og økonomi.

This brings the number of writing days so far this Spring up to 1,5.

Today I have had an article writing day, with some 150 words added to the article "Når gode råd er plagsomme" which I co-write with Svein Tuastad. I also tried out some initial searches in Retriever´s media archive Atekst in preparation of the article´s media analysis. Moreover, while drafting a basic manuscript structure including subheadings etc., I added some 400 words to an article I am co-writing with Maren Sagvaag Retland on refugee issues.

This was writing day #44,5 this Autumn (starting July 1st), with a total of 13,5 of the writing days devoted to article writing to date.

Council for animal ethics meeting attended

Today I have attended a meeting of Norway´s Council for animal ethics, at Næringslivets hus in Oslo. Among other things, we discussed the consultative statement we are in the process of writing on climate change and animal ethics, and recent developments in the ethical work that is done in relation to Norway´s Government Pension Fund Global.

Third Live Better article published: "Mind the Gap: Perceived economic inequality and the well-being gap around the globe"

In July, the article "Mind the Gap: Perceived economic inequality and the well-being gap around the globe" was published in Social Psychological and Personality Science. I am credited as a co-author of the article based on data gathering in Norway as well as input to the content and framing of the article. This is the third article from the Live Better research consortium where I am credited as co-author.

Meeting of Norway´s Council for animal ethics attended; ongoing work on consultative statement on climate concerns and animal ethics

Today I have attended the third meeting of Norway´s Council for animal ethics held this year (I also attended the second, in June, whereas I fell sick on my way to the first in February). The meeting was held digitally. Among other topics we discussed the organisation of this year´s Animal ethics conference (Dyreetikkonferansen), which takes place November 17th in Oslo. We also touched upon a consultative statement on trade-offs between climate concerns and animal ethics concerns in food production which a work group which includes me currently works on.

Letter to the editor in SA on CCS

Today a letter to the editor I have written titled "Fanget av tidsånden" (about Carbon Capture and Storage) is published in the paper version of Stavanger Aftenblad, in response to a chronicle titled "Stavanger-regionen kan ta en lederrolle i karbonfangst" which was published a few days ago. My letter to the editor was published online yesterday.

Scheduled for panel discussion at Wonderful World on ecocentric democracy

I´ve been scheduled to take part in another Wonderful world event on May 31st, a panel called "Kan Norge bli et økosentrisk demokrati?" (Can Norway become an ecocentric democracy?), drawing on the theme of Andrew P. Kroglund´s recent book Økotopia - på sporet av en ny naturforståelse.

Consultative statement on Norway´s oil fund´s investments in food production; working group headed by me

In October last Autumn, Norway´s Council for animal ethics, of which I am a member, published the consultative statement "Uttalelse vedrørende oljefondets investeringer i internasjonal matproduksjon" (Statement regarding the Norwegian Petroleum Fund's investments in international food production), a 27 pp. document written by me, Espen Gamlund, Eli Berge Ness and Rudi Ripman Seim, and discussed and approved by the council. I led the working group that was tasked with drafting the statement. The formal name of the Norwegian "oil fund" is Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG). The fund is the largest sovereign wealth fund in the world.

Today I have had half an article writing day, and half a book writing day, with some 950 words added to my scientific monograph Captured: CCS and the fight for the soul of the environmental movement and 200 words to the article on Norwegian democracy I co-write with Svein Tuastad. So far this Autumn I have had 11,5 writing days including 6 book writing days and 5,5 article writing days, and written about 6.000 words on Captured and more than 8.000 words altogether.
