Today I have attended the leadership group meeting at Faculty of social sciences. I have also taken part (on the interviewer side) in a job interview. All digital.

Writing day

Writing day today. Brings total in 2020 up to 25,5. Devoted to my semiotics companion chapter "Semiotics in ethilogy and zoology". Some 800 words written.

A meeting; opening of research school webinar

Today I have attended and opened the opening webinar of the research school in social work and welfare (SWEL) at University of Stavanger, in my capacity as Vice-Dean of research at Faculty of social sciences. I have also attended a work group meeting (in Teams) in relation to the quality revision work of the university (subproject C).

Half writing day; words written; reflections

Another half writing day devoted to my semiotics companion chapter "Semiotics in ethology and zoology", with some 300 words written, plus some reflections (sic) in relation to semiotic agency.

Total number of writing days this year is up to 24,5.

Two meetings and a further meeting by email

Today I have attended a leadership meeting at the Faculty of social sciences, and a meeting in the research administration at the faculty (both in Teams), plus taken part in a meeting of the faculty´s appointments committee conducted by email.

Today I have attended the leadership group meeting at Faculty of social sciences, and chaired the meeting of the ph.d. committee for the ph.d. in social sciences, both via video conference in Microsoft Teams.

Article day

Today I have had an article writing day devoted to my semiotics companion chapter "Semiotics in ethology and zoology", with 4 articles read and some 500 words written.

Total number of writing days since New Year: 24.

Half writing day

Today I have had half an article writing day, devoted to ... literature search, mainly. Total number of article writing days since New Years is 23.

Today I have had half an article writing day devoted to work on Semiotic agency and my semiotics companion chapter "Semiotics in ethology and zoology", with 3-400 words written and some terminology explained.

Total number of article writing days to date this year is 22,5.

A meeting; guidelines for digital Ph.d. defense

Today I have attended another faculty meeting, this time an expanded office manager meeting also including other staff and the faculty leadership. The corona virus situation is still dominating most work.

Meanwhile, I have, among other things, contributed to drafting guidelines for digital Ph.d. defenses at the University of Stavanger, which will take effect soon.

Faculty leadership meeting; picking up things at campus

Today I have attended the faculty leadership meeting at Faculty of social sciences, via Teams (video conference). The corona virus situation, which has caused the university to be closed for at least two weeks, was naturally the biggest topic of discussion, with a lot of things to reorganize these days.

At the end of the work day, I went to the University of Stavanger´s Ullandhaug campus to pick up some things for use at my home office (we were allowed to do this yesterday or today).

NASS board meeting held

Today I chaired the board meeting, via Skype, of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies. Representatives from six countries attended.

Yesterday I had half an article writing day devoted to my semiotics companion chapter "Semiotics in ethology and zoology", with some 500 words written. Total number this year is up to 22.

Another ad hoc-meeting yesterday; UIS shut down; first Teams meeting today

Yesterday a second ad hoc faculty leadership meeting was held in response to the quickly developing corona situation, which has caused much of Norway to shut down starting today. At 2 pm the government announced all universities in the country are closing down for the next two weeks. 

Today I attended a video conference meeting with colleagues at my own and another faculty. For the next two weeks all meetings will be digital, as the campus is closed.

Corona measures at University of Stavanger; meeting

This morning I attended an ad hoc-meeting in the faculty leadership group related to the quickly developing corona virus situation in Norway. The rector just announced drastic measures, including cancelling all on-campus teaching until Easter and limiting meetings to critical functions (see info here in Norwegian).

Writing day

Today I have had an article writing day devoted to my semiotics companion chapter "Semiotics in ethology and zoology", with some 700 words written. This was my fourth article writing day in March and brings this year´s total up to 21,5 so far.

Contract with Bloomsbury signed

I have signed a contract with Bloomsbury Academic, an imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing, in relation to the semiotics reference work I am contributing to with a chapter titled "Semiotics in ethology and zoology".

Today I have attended a meeting at the faculty with info from the university´s privacy ombudsman and GDPR project leader.

Three meetings and a supervision session

Today I have attended a faculty leadership meeting, a Skype meeting related to Norway´s Council for animal ethics, a work meeting related to research administration, and taken part in a Ph.d. supervission session with defriefing after 50% seminar.

Today I have had an article writing day devoted to my semiotics companion chapter "Semiotics in ethology and zoology", with some 900 words written. This was my third writing day in March and brings the total since New Year up to 20,5 writing days.

A meeting, a seminar and a dinner

Today I took part in the appointments committee meeting for the position as head of department at the Norwegian School of Hotel Management, which included an interview. I also chaired the 50% seminar of my Ph.d. student Joakim Jiri Haaland - Erik Paulsen was commentator; co-supervisor Børge Baklien was also present; 14 people were present. The seminar was marked with dinner afterwards.

Wasted growth paper accepted for presentation at ISQOLS 2020 (Rotterdam)

I have been notified by the scientific committee of the 18th annual conference of the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies, to be held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands August 25-28, 2020, that my paper "Wasted and wasteful growth in the USA" has been accepted for oral presentation.

"The ethics of laying hen genetics" to appear in print issue soon

I have been notified by Springer that our article "The ethics of laying hen genetics" (which was published online November 22nd 2019) will soon be included in a print issue of Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics.

The online version, which is Open Access, has been accessed 1.231 times so far.

Two meetings and supervision

Today I have attended a meeting related to the ph.d. program, and the open meeting of the Faculty of social sciences focused on the university´s and faculty´s strategy work. I have also had a supervision session.

Today I have attended two meetings: The leadership forum (Lederforum), this time about strategy, and the first meeting of the working group tasked with subproject C in the quality system project of University of Stavanger.
