Cristin: 24 posts in 2022; 317 altogether

I have just completed registration of academic activities in Cristin, the Current research information system in Norway (cf. my Cristin profile) - 24 posts. This includes:

* 5 scientific texts (2 book chapters, 1 co-written article, 1 commentary, 1 Festschrift contribution)

* 5 conference talks

* 4 chronicles

* 4 interviews

For 2021 I had 19 posts. Altogether I now have 317 posts since I started registering in Cristin in 2012.

Registrations in CRISTIN for 2021 completed; 19 posts vs. 293 all-time

I have now completed registration in the Current Research Information System in Norway (CRISTIN) for 2021, with 19 posts. All-time, since I started registering in CRISTIN in 2012, I have registered altogether 293 posts, or 29,3 posts per year on average.

The 2021 registrations includes a co-written book, 4 journal texts, 3 newspaper chronicles and a letter to the editor, 4 interviews (3 of which on UIS online platforms and related to UIS activities), 4 conference talks and 2 seminar/workshop talks.

My annual number of CRISTIN posts have been significantly lower the last couple of years than in 2019 when number of posts peaked at 44 following 13 national media appearances (link below).

Registrations in CRISTIN for 2020 completed; 20 posts vs. 274 all-time

I have completed my registrations in the Current research information system in Norway (cf. my profile). With 20 posts, this is less than usual, but then again, it was an extraordinary year (and another factor might be my trajectory towards leadership roles). The activities I have reported include:

 - a scientific journal article

- a scientific book chapter

- 3 chronicles in national newspapers

- 2 scientific conference presentations

- 4 interviews (2 as researcher and 2 in the role as Vice Dean of research)

Altogether I have registered 274 posts in CRISTIN to date (since 2012).

Two meetings

Today I attended a breakfast meeting on writing chronicles, featuring rector Klaus Mohn. I have also participated in a meeting with a colleague.

UiS Head of Department´s stance on climate change attacked in Stavanger Aftenblad letter to the editor

Yesterday a letter to the editor by Professor emeritus Gunnar Kvåle was published in the Norwegian regional daily Stavanger Aftenblad, entitled "Er det greit at en instituttleder ved UiS fnyser av FNs klimarapport?" [Is it OK that a Head of Department at University of Stavanger /rejects/ the UN´s climate report?]. This concerns Hans Borge, Head of department at Department of Petroleum Engineering. Kvåle cites my chronicle, published earlier this month, "10 spørsmål om fremtidens UiS" [10 questions about the future University of Stavanger], and claims that rector of UiS Marit Boyesen (see her reply chronicle) avoids replying to my questions regarding the actuality of climate change.

UiS rector replies to chronicle on ethics of petroleum research

In a chronicle entitled "Oljå, omstilling og fremtidens UiS" [The oil, restructuring and the future University of Stavanger], Marit Boyesen, rector of the University of Stavanger, today replied in the Norwegian regional daily Stavanger Aftenblad to my chronicle yesterday in the same newspaper, "10 spørsmål om fremtidens UiS" [10 questions about the future University of Stavanger].

Two more members of parliament respond to chronicle on petroleum research

In today's Aftenposten (Norway's biggest daily), members of parliament (the Conservatives) Siri A. Meling and Kristin Vinje responds to my chronicle "Hva slags forskning er etisk forsvarlig?" [What kind(s) of research is ethically justifiable?], which was published Monday December 2nd, with a Letter to the editor entitled «Uten petroleumsforskning stopper Norge» [Without petroleum research, Norway stops]. The two parliamentarians claim that petroleum research is not problematic in ethical terms, and that the petroleum sector benefits both the poor and the (Norwegian) rich. 

Member of parliament (Green Party) responds to chronicle on petroleum research

In a letter to the editor entitled "Kunnskap for fremtidens Norge" [Knowledge for the future Norway], Rasmus Hansson, a member of parliament representing the Green Party of Norway, refers to my chronicle "Hva slags forskning er etisk forsvarlig?" [What kind(s) of research is ethically justifiable?], which was published in the Norwegian daily Aftenposten Monday this week. Hansson writes that the Green Party in their alternative government budget proposes to increase research supporting green reorganization of society, including renewable energy, and to reduce petroleum investments, research and subsidies.

This Monday, signing as Associate professor at University of Stavanger, I had a chronicle published in Aftenposten, Norway's biggest daily, entitled "Hva slags forskning er etisk forsvarlig?" [What kind(s) of research is ethically justifiable?]. The original text of the chronicle, which I had named "Universitetenes petroleumsforskning og fremtiden" [The universities' petroleum research and the future], has just now been posted in my Norwegian language blog Utopisk Realisme.

Norwegian HAS anthology advertised in publisher's PR leaflet

The recently published Norwegian Human-Animal Studies anthology Hvem er villest i landet her? Råskap mot dyr og natur i antropocen, menneskets tidsalder [Who is wildest in this country here? Brutality towards animals and nature in the Anthropocene, the age of Man], for which I am one of three editors, is advertised in this spring's PR leaflet issued by the publisher, Spartacus forlag/Scandinavian Academic Press.

Meanwhile, our chronicle posted in the debate forum Nye meninger two days ago has been read by some 600 people online (it has also been published in print, in the daily Klassekampen).

The programmatic chronicle on human-animal relations that I mentioned yesterday, when it was printed in the Norwegian daily Klassekampen, has now been posted on the debate forum Nye Meninger, with the title "Veien ut av antropocen: Miljøvernere og dyrevernere, foren deres krefter!" [The way/road out of the Anthropocene: Environmentalists and animal protectionists, unite your forces!] (in Norwegian).

Programmatic chronicle on human-animal relations in the daily Klassekampen

In today's Klassekampen, a Norwegian daily, there is a chronicle written by me, Guri Larsen and Ragnhild Sollund and entitled "Ut av menneskets vold" [loosely: Out of human custody/detention]. This chronicle, which is an outcome of the book we've edited, Hvem er villest i landet her? Råskap mot dyr og natur i antropocen, menneskets tidsalder [Who is wildest in this country here? Brutality towards animals and nature in the Anthropocene, the age of Man], is programmatic in style and content.

Ingress (my translation): 

Environmentalists and animal protectionists should unite their forces in order to change our relation to our surroundings.

Caption (my translation):

Subjected to Man: A life in a cage inflicts animals with suffering and disease. Animal protectionists and environmentalists should form an alliance to give individuals and living systems greater intrinsic value, for the benefit of animals, the environment and humans, the authors write.

Chronicle in Norwegian environmentalist magazine on Arne Næss

Today I received no. 1/2012 of the Norwegian environmentalist magazine "Natur & Miljø" (Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature), which features a chronicle I have written on behalf of Arne i 100. The title of the chronicle is "Arne Næss i 100 - Fortsatt aktuell?", which translates approximately as "Arne Næss, 100 - still relevant/applicable?"

My chronicle in Dagbladet, "Landet som grodde igjen", triggered 90 comments or so in Dagbladet's online debate (same page as the article). Three excerpts were printed in a column in Dagbladet Tuesday 15th of February, along with a brief presentation of my text.

Wolf chronicle

The chronicle I have previously referred to as "Hvem er villest i landet her? - Et ulveliv" [Who's the wildest in the country here? - A wolf's life]" has been published in the weekly newsmagazine Ny Tid under the title "Når villdyret overvåkes" [loosely: When wild animals are monitored]. It is accompanied by an illustration (drawing) by Firuz Kutal. Full reference:

Note that I have listed three corrections (one is rather a precisation) in my Norwegian language blog Utopisk Realisme, concerning the use of ear-tags/chips in management, the practice of captures, and a statement by the major of Rendalen.
