Philosophy business - annual reporting for 2020

In 2020, my one-person company, Spør Filosofen, had 24.069 Norwegian crones in income and 4.123 Norwegian crones in expenses, resulting in profits of 19.846 crones (margin 82,9%). Income was mainly related to book royalties and fee for a couple of public lectures.

4 employee appraisals, 3 job interviews and 1 more meeting

Today I have had 4 employee appraisals (total to date: 44; of which 7 this week), 3 job interviews and 1 more meeting, altogether 8 meetings in one day - which I think is a new record. Total number of scheduled meetings for the week is 18.

No response from UiS deans on philosophers´ educational proposals

Unfortunately, after more than 6 months have passed, we the philosophers at University of Stavanger have still not heard back on the substance of our educational proposals communicated in a letter to the deans of Faculty of Social Sciences (Gro Ellen Mathiesen) and Faculty of humanities and education (Elaine Munthe), sent this February. Only Munthe has acknowledged receiving the letter.

I am in the process of being hired in a permanent position as Associate professor in philosophy at University of Stavanger, after 4 and a half years as temporarily employed (as Associate professor in philosophy). More info as things gets formally confirmed.

Chronicle on ethics of petroleum research, university strategy published in Stavanger Aftenblad

Today my chronicle "10 spørsmål om fremtidens UiS" [10 questions about the future University of Stavanger] was published in print in the Norwegian regional daily Stavanger Aftenblad. On the front page and the main debate page, the headline was "Filosofens 10 spørsmål om fremtidens UiS" [The philosopher´s 10 questions about the future University of Stavanger].

Employed by Department of social studies

Since August 1st I have been employed by University of Stavanger's Department of social studies, in a 50% position as associate professor in philosophy (I have previously been employed by Department of health studies, where my only formal affiliation here and now is the research project "Animals in changing environments: Cultural mediation and semiotic analysis", in a 10% position). My current contract at Department of social studies runs until July 31st 2015.
