5 meetings

Today I have attended 5 meetings. This included the first monthly meeting with the dean, two budget meetings, and the weekly fakulty leadership group meeting.

Two meetings, a pick-up and a corona test

Yesterday I attended the faculty leadership group meeting, picked up the outfit of the Dean in preparation of Thursday´s Ph.d. defence which I will chair, took a corona test, and attended the kick-off meeting of a work group established to plan for a cognitive lab at University of Stavanger.

Not to be Dean

Today I was informed that I am not advancing to the next step of the recruitement process for a new Dean at the University of Stavanger´s Faculty of social sciences. I was one of three applicants that were interviewed for the position.

Today I have had a supervision session (for bachelor thesis in social work), and been at a job interview (in Teams) for the position as Dean at University of Stavanger´s Faculty of social sciences.

Three meetings

Today I have attended three meetings, including the "rector meeting" at University of Stavanger (first time - features the rector and vice rectors, the deans, and selected directors), and a meeting on the Faculty of Social Sciences´ research report.

Meeting; children at work

Today I participated in - and (in the absence of the Dean) chaired - the faculty´s leadership group meeting, focused on our ongoing establishment of research schools. Two of my kids were nearby, since kindergarten has planning day today.

Two meetings

Today I had the first performance appraisal with the Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, as Vice-Dean of Research. I also attended another planning meeting for the Network for welfare research workshop that will be held April 30th - this time focused on the group work we´ll have.

Research schools: Call published, with application form, guidelines

Today an announcement text in relation to a call for applications for establishing research schools in connection with the PhD program in social sciences at University of Stavanger has been published, along with an application form and guidelines for research schools. I have drafted all these documents, and also been involved in making final edits with the Dean after receiving feedback on draft versions.

Meeting with deans and fellow philosophers

I have just been to a meeting with two fellow UiS philosophers and the deans of Faculty of social sciences and Faculty of education and humanities, as a follow-up to our document sent this Spring on the organization of the philosophers and (mainly) our teaching offer.

No response from UiS deans on philosophers´ educational proposals

Unfortunately, after more than 6 months have passed, we the philosophers at University of Stavanger have still not heard back on the substance of our educational proposals communicated in a letter to the deans of Faculty of Social Sciences (Gro Ellen Mathiesen) and Faculty of humanities and education (Elaine Munthe), sent this February. Only Munthe has acknowledged receiving the letter.

IMKS course approved by dean

I have been notified that the course description for "Philosophy of science and research methods" has been approved by the dean of the Faculty of social sciences, Gro Ellen Mathisen.

Staff meeting attended

Today I attended the staff meeting of Department of social studies at University of Stavanger, the first this autumn. We had lunch and cake, and were informed about developments at the department and university. The new dean of Faculty of social sciences, Gro Ellen Mathisen, was there to introduce herself.

New Dean, Head of departments announced

Yesterday the board of University of Stavanger made decisions on new Head of departments at Department of health studies, Department of media, culture and social sciences (see link to news story), and dean of Faculty of social sciences. The names have been announced to employees today. In the case of Department of social studies, there will be another call for applications.

I applied for all four positions, and was interviewed and considered a serious candidate in relation to Department of social studies and Department of media, culture and social sciences.

Board meeting and seminar of UiS

Thursday this week I took part in the seminar and board meeting of University of Stavanger. The day included three events:

1. A joint board meeting with the International Research Institute of Stavanger (IRIS)
2. A brief regular board meeting
3. A strategy seminar for UiS, with the board members giving input to the revision process with regard to the university's strategy up to 2020

I made use of my voice at all three occasions, which all took place at the Stavanger Concert Hall. The regular board meeting approved the university's preliminary financial report for 2012, and appointed Elaine Munthe as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Education, appointed Eric Brun as Head of Department at Department of Industrial Economics, Risk Management and Planning, and re-appointed Truls Engstrøm as Head of Department at the Norwegian School of Hotel Management.
