Grant reporting of academic activities for 2015

Today I have completed reporting activities in 2015 in relation to the research project "Animals in changing environments: Cultural mediation and semiotic analysis" (EMP151). I have also coordinated the reporting from other members of the Norwegian research group, and the Norwegian reporting of financial accounts.

Readings 2014

This last year, in 2014, I read some 5.690 pages of academic literature (with author known), according to my notes (not much at all). This is significantly below the 7,096 pages I read in 2013, and what I have read the last few preceding years.

2848 work hours logged in 2015

According to my regular overview, I had 2.848 work hours in 2015. This is about the same level as in 2014, and results in an average work week of 54,6 hours throughout the year.

According to my calculations, academic work amounted to 75,0 % of my work in 2015, book projects and writing for 8,5 % and other work for 16,5 %.

2nd most-publishing scholar at Dep. of social studies; 10th at Dep. of health studies

Preliminary overviews indicate that in 2014, I was the 2nd most-publishing researcher at University of Stavanger´s Department of social studies, and at the same time the 10th most-publishing researcher at Department of health studies. I have been credited with 1,7 publication points for Department of social studies and 1,5 publication points for Department of health studies, in total 3,2 publication points (vs. 3,13 in 2013).

In a previous post, I estimated that I would be credited with 3,7 publication points. The difference is explained by the fact that a book chapter I co-authored appeared in December 2014 but will be considered a 2015 publication since the official, printed publication year was 2015.

To be responsible for extraordinary philosophy exam in BSNEXP

I have agreed to be responsible for an extraordinary exam in the course BSNEXP (Examen Philosophicum in internet-based bachelor in nursing) Spring 2015 at University of Stavanger´s Department of Health Studies. The responsibility will involve composing exam questions and grading exam papers.

To guest-lecture at University of Oslo (again)

I have agreed to guest-lecture at University of Oslo's Department of criminology and sociology of law, on February 11th 2015, in a course on green criminology. The title of my talk is "Menneskeveldet - menneskets globale økologiske hierarki" (also offered previous years).

This year Ragnhild Sollund and Rune Ellefsen are course coordinators.

Work title and publication year of Studies in Environmental Humanities volume

The book volume which is to be published in Rodopi's series "Studies in Environmental Humanities", where I will contribute with a chapter work-titled "A Critical Reading of the Mentions of Animals in Political Party Programs", has the work title "Framing Nature". The book will be published in 2016 (not 2015 as I was previously informed).

Title of September 2015 conference (Stavanger) decided; Anthropocene theme

The title and theme of the September 17-19th 2015 conference to be organised by the Norwegian research group of the Estonian-Norwegian research project "Animals in changing environments: Cultural mediation and semiotic analysis" will be "Animals in the Anthropocene - Human-animal relations in a changing semiosphere". This has now been decided by the conference's local organising committee.

2nd code biology conference to be held June 16th-20th 2015

The 2^nd International Conference in Code Biology, which will be arranged in Jena, Germany, at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität, will be held June 16th-20th 2015.

Webpage for Norwegian Animal Protection Day 2015 launched; Minding Animals Prize planned

A working group sorting under Minding Animals Norway is preparing Norwegian Animal Protection Day 2015, which is to take place in Oslo in Spring 2015. The ultimate goal is to make this an annual event. The event will include a seminar and a party with one or more prizes being awarded (including the Minding Animals Prize for best Human-Animal Studies research).

3rd Animals in changing environments research seminar scheduled for May 2015

The 3rd research seminar of the Norwegian-Estonian research project “Animals in changing environments: Cultural mediation and semiotic analysis” (EEA Norway Grants EMP151) has been scheduled for Friday May 15th 2015. The research seminar will take place at the University of Stavanger.
