International survey and project ""Live better - The culturally sensitive study on "folk theories of societal development" and on "ideal types of well-being"" joined
I have agreed to join the research consortium behind the research project "Live better - The culturally sensitive study on "folk theories of societal development" and on "ideal types of well-being", led by Kuba Krys, who is based at the Institute of Psychology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
First Ex.phil. lecture given
Today I have given the first lecture in SVEXPHIL10, Ex.phil. for the students in bachelor in psychology. There will be 12 lectures this semester, plus seminars. The topic today was epistemology.

Today I have had half a writing day, with some planning done, including for our article about Arne Næss and his views on economics, and a little research done for my book manuscript Captured. Total number of writing days so far this Autumn is 11.
Norway´s Council for animal ethics relseases statement with recommendations on animal ethics issues in Norway
Norway´s Council of animal ethics has released a statement to the ministries of agriculture and fisheries respectively titled "Brennende etiske temaer knyttet til dyrevelferd i Norge" (literally: Burning ethical topics related to animal welfare in Norway). Knut Bøe, Kristian Ellingsen-Dalskau and me are credited as Co-authors of the statement (14 pp.). The statement was written in response to the ministries´ work with the government´s forthcoming parliamentary notice on animal welfare.

The Norwegian national daily newspaper VG has run a news story, online Saturday and in print today, titled "Nå kan kyllingrasen du spiser bli forbudt" (now this chicken breed may be forbidden - concerns Ross 308). The news story builds on our recent statement to the Norwegian ministries of agriculture and fisheries respectively in relation to the government´s forthcoming parliamentary notice (stortingsmelding) on animal welfare.

Over the last three days I have had half an article day with work done on my article "Wasted GDP in the USA", an upcoming joint article on wolves behavior and management, and a research consortium working on wellbeing and societal development that I will be joining which includes data collection and article publication.
Number of writing days this Autumn is up to 10.

Today I have presented my paper "Wasted GDP in the USA" at the 21st annual conference of the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies (ISQOLS 2023), as part of session 6J, “Well-being Indicators”, chaired by Nuno Nunes. S
This is the fourth ISQOLS conference I am attending and presenting at, in a row (the 2020 and 2021 conferences were held digitally).

"Ted talk" om human beings given to BPS students at UIS
Today I have given a 20 minute "Ted talk" to the new students in bachelor in psychology at University of Stavanger, on the topic "Hva er et menneske?" (What is a human being?). Some 10 people attended.

Panel discussion on animal ethics and welfare during Arendalsuka held
Today I have taken part in the panel discussion "Kan norsk landbruk tilby et liv verdt å leve?" during Arendalsuka, organised by MatPrat, Opplysningskontoret for brød og korn and Melk.no. Ruth Astrid Sæter chaired the event, which was attended by maybe 50 people in-person, at Barrique øl- og vinstue, and streamed live. I represented Council for animal ethics, and University of Stavanger.

Today I have had a writing day with some 500 words written altogether, mainly on the announcement text "Biosemiotic Achievement Award for the Year 2022", which I am co-writing with fellow members of the Selection panel Ludmila Lackova and Ahti-Veikko Juhani Pietarinen. I also did work on the refugee article I am co-writing with Maren Sagvaag Retland and others, and on my book manuscript Captured. This was the 4th writing day this Autumn.
Google Scholar: 941 citations; i10-index of 36
Google Scholar appears to have had another data revision, indicated by reduction in number of citations during the summer. Still, as of today, according to my Google Scholar profile, my research has attracted 941 citations (+3 since June 22nd), including 79 citations in 2023 (+13 since June 22nd). My i10-index is 36 (+1) and my h-index 18 (no change).
With 42 citations, including 5 citations so far this year, the article "The ethics of laying hen genetics" is now my 3rd most cited text (up from 4th June 22nd). With 19 citations, including 10 so far in 2023, our book Semiotic agency: Science beyond mechanism is at #16 (down from #15 June 22nd, with -1 citations since then).

Sigmund Ongstad given Biosemiotic Achievement Award for 2022 in Copenhagen
Yesterday I announced the winner of the Biosemiotic Achievement Award for 2022, Sigmund Ongstad, for his article "Simple Utterances but Complex Understanding? Meta-studying the Fuzzy Mismatch between Animal Semantic Capacities in Varied Contexts", at the 23rd gathering in biosemiotics, held in Copenhagen. I have taken part in this year´s Selection panel along with Ludmila Lackova and Anti-Veikko Pietarinen.

Today I have attended the annual editorial board meeting of Biosemiotics (digitally), along with about 20 others.
