#38; first SNL encyclopedia article submitted, on wolf hunting

Today I have had half an article writing day, with some 900 words added to my encyclopedia article "Ulvejakt" (Wolf hunting), which I have now submitted to the editors of Store Norske Leksikon (SNL). This was writing day #38 this Autumn (starting July 1st), with a total of 9 of the writing days devoted to article writing to date.

Participation in three Wonderful World events

Over the last two days I have taken part in three events at the philosophy and science festival "Wonderful World" 2024 which is currently being held in Stavanger, Norway:

• On Thursday 6.30 p.m. I served as a commentator following Einar Duenger Bøhn´s talk "Jaktens etikk og filosofi" (The ethics and philosophy of hunting). Some 20-30 people attended. Kamilla Østerberg was moderator.
• On Thursday 8.30 p.m.  I served as a commentator following Rupert Sheldrake´s talk "Is the universe conscious?", along with David Ploog. Some 130 people attended. Karen Aalen was moderator.
• Earlier today (Friday), at noon, I took part in the discussion panel "Panpsykisme - brobygger mellom materie og bevissthet?" (Panpsychism - building bridges between matter and consciousness?" along with Hedda Hassel Mørch and Einar Duenger Bøhn (Vegard Møller was moderator). Some 60 people attended.

I think it all went well, in terms of engaging content.

Participating in three events during "Wonderful world" 2024 philosophy and science festival

This week the philosophy and science festival "Wonderful World" 2024 is held in Stavanger, Norway. I take part in three events:

• On Thursday 7 p.m. I serve as commentator following Einar Duenger Bøhn´s talk "Jaktens etikk og filosofi" (The ethics and philosophy of hunting) 
• On Thursday 8.30 p.m.  serve as commentator following Rupert Sheldrake´s talk "Is the universe conscious?"
• On Friday at noon I take part in the discussion panel "Panpsykisme - brobygger mellom materie og bevissthet?" (Panpsychism - building bridges between matter and consciousness?" along with Hedda Hassel Mørch and Einar Duenger Bøhn (Vegard Møller is moderator)

Participation at ministries input meeting on revision of wildlife law on behalf of Council for animal ethics

Today I have represented Norway´s Council for animal ethics in an online input meeting (innspillsmøte) held by Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Ministry of Climate and Environment in relation to the ministries´ planned revision on hunting and capture of wildlife (Viltloven - the wildlife law). I had 5 minutes to present my input on behalf on the council. I will also prepare written feedback to the ministries (to be discussed in Council for animal ethics before it is sent).

Some 50 people attended the input meeting.

Third gathering of hunting network attended in Oslo

Today I have attended the third gathering of the network "Jakt i endring" (Hunting undergoing change), in Oslo Science Park. The gathering amounted to a day full of presentations, including on preliminary findings from a Q survey conducted within the network on attitudes to hunting and related issues.

Second hunting-themed gathering attended

Today I have attended the second gathering of the Norwegian network "Jakt i endring", at the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) in Oslo.

On June 5th at 14.30 to 15.15 I will be presenting the paper "Jakten på det gode liv - pågående endringer i natur- og menneskesyn" during the first gathering of the research network "Jakt i endring", in Oslo.

As a member of the Norwegian network "Jakt i endring" [Hunting undergoing change] I have agreed to present a paper on views on nature and animal life at a network gathering June 5th-6th.

Research network on hunting to be established

A research application I have been involved in for establishing a research network on hunting, "Jakt i endring" [hunting in change], has been funded. It is headed by Ketil Skogen at NINA and will operate 2017-2019.

"Facts not enough" dissemination article referred to in Jeger news story

A news story published on Jeger.no November 17th 2015, "Fakta ikke nok i ulvedebatten" [Facts not enough in debate on wolves], refers to a longer story featuring my research published on forskning.no November 16th, "Fakta er ikke nok i ulvedebatten" [Facts are not enough in debate on wolves].

Jeger.no is the online version of the Norwegian magazine Jeger [hunter].

Opinion piece on mother-child relations in animals published in Salongen

My opinion piece "Jakten på mor og barn" [The hunt for/Hunting mother and child] was published in Salongen December 2nd, upon invitation, in relation to the 4th Norwegian Animal Ethics Conference.

Salongen is a webpage, or online journal, for philosophy and the history of ideas.

Letter to the editor on wolf mortality in Dagbladet

Friday August 23rd, the day after the Norwegian Animal Ethics Conference took place in Oslo, I had a letter to the editor published in the Norwegian national daily Dagbladet, entitled "Et ulveliv" [A wolf's life]. The article presents excerpts from my wolf chapter in the recently published anthology Hvem er villest i landet her? [Who's the wildest one in the country here?], and raises the question of whether wild wolves have a right to die of natural causes, rather than by the human hand. A modest management goal is proposed, namely that at least every second wolf should die of natural causes (versus only one out of five today, in Scandinavia).

Reference for forthcoming book review on wolf conflicts

Some three weeks back I proof-read my book review which is to appear in the Norwegian academic journal Sosiologi idag [Sociology today] this autumn. The review will appear with no title, and no summary (correction to previous post). Reference:
