Special issue on biosemiotic ethics freely available online

Our special issue of Zeitschrift für Semiotik on biosemiotic ethics is now freely available online, downloadable in PDF format.

Brief presentation:

This issue presents the rapidly growing field of biosemiotic ethics. In the past two decades, biosemioticians have began to tease out the ethical implications of biosemiotics. The foundational argument is that if semiosis is a morally-relevant capacity, and if all living systems are semiotic, then biosemiosis can serve as the basis for justifying the attribution of moral status to humans, to animals and plants, and even to ecosystems. Biosemiotic ethics opens the road towards a perspective that connects ecological thinking with ethical perspectives.

Publication points for 2017 - estimate

According to my preliminary calculations, I should get about 3,5-3,6 publication points (old method) for 2017. So far 3 articles with 1,1-1,2 publication points have been reported and approved, four more remain to be reported.

Special issue on biosemiotic ethics - online presentation, email mention

Our special issue of Zeitschrift für Semiotik on biosemiotic ethics is given mention in the holiday greetings email of the publisher, Staufenburg Verlag, with the Table of contents reiterated etc.

Special issue on biosemiotic ethics fully edited, revised

After further editorial work, we have finally sent off edited revisions of all articles for our special issue on biosemiotic ethics, appearing in Zeitschrift for Semiotik this Spring.

Obituary for John Deely

I have written an obituary for my dear colleague and friend John Deely, who passed  January 6th. The obituary, co-written with Yogi Hale Hendlin and Jonathan Beever, is titled "A world of signs: in memory of John Deely (1942–2017)" and will appear in Zeitschrift für Semiotik´s special issue on biosemiotic ethics, to which John contributed.

ZfS special issue on biosemiotic ethics delayed; appearing soon

Our special issue of Zeitschrift für Semiotik on biosemiotic ethics is somewhat delayed due to changes in the regular editorial and typesetting staff. The journal´s homepage says the special issue will appear as issue 1-2/2016 but only appear Spring/Summer 2017 (I think Spring is most likely). We received commented files from the regular editors about a week ago, and will quickly proceed to typesetting, around Christmas.

Manuscript for special issue on biosemiotic ethics submitted

Yesterday, or more precisely this night, I sent off the full manuscript of the special issue on biosemiotic ethics to the editors of Zeitschrift für Semiotik, on behalf of myself, Jonathan Beever and Yogi Hendlin, my fellow guest editors. Altogether 11 texts totaling some 83.000 words.

Special issue on biosemiotic ethics in progress

The last few days I have read and responded to contributions, in full draft version, to the special issue of Zeitschrift für Semiotik on biosemiotic ethics that I am co-editing with Jonathan Beever and Yogi Hendlin. I have also been organizing peer-reviews. Revised manuscripts are due August 20th.

I have just, along with co-author Jonathan Beever, finished the article "Justifying Moral Standing by Biosemiotic Particularism", for our special issue of Zeitschrift für Semiotik on biosemiotic ethics. Currently some 9.500 words.

Special issue of Zeitschrift für Semiotik on biosemiotic ethics to appear December 2016

Some days ago, we got the final go-ahead for a special issue of Zeitschrift für Semiotik on biosemiotic ethics. The special issue, which will according to plans appear December 2016, will be guest-edited by me, Jonathan Beever and Yogi Hendlin.

This implies that I will be involved as an editor in no less than two books and a special issue to be published in 2016, in collaboration with publishers in Germany, Estonia and the US.
