"Wasted GDP in the USA" featured in HSSCOMMS collection "Top 50 papers: 2015-2024"

Today I discovered that my 2023 article "Wasted GDP in the USA" has been included in another collection by Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, where it appeared, namely the collection "Top 50 papers: 2015-2024". The collection was released January 20th 2025. 

"The articles have been selected based on a combination of metrics (citation counts, downloads and Altmetric scores)", according to the journal. The collection features "some of this journal’s most impactful and accessed research from the past decade". Altogether the journal appears to have published about 4.000 articles over its first decade.

My article is one of 15 articles published in the past three years (2022-2024) that have been included in the collection.

Today I have had half a writing day of sorts, devoted to exploring further mentions of my article "Wasted GDP in the USA", cf. the two previous posts about media and Twitter appearances.

 My article "Wasted GDP in the USA", published in October last year, is trending on Altmetric again, according to the homepage of Humanities & Social Sciences Communications, where it was published. The article now has an Altmetric score of 995 (+162 since November 17th and also since quite recently), and Accesses (i.e., reads) is up to 7.864 (+2.720 since November 25th and up more than 1.000 over the last week or so). 

The article has now been mentioned in 1.826 tweets by 1.590 X users, 2 Redditers, 11 on Mendeley, and 3 news outlets (cf. Online attention details). 2 new news outlets are now listed, Mongabay and (reused in) South Africa Today. "Wasted GDP in the USA" is referenced in a news story and podcast that was first published on Mongabay January 30th.

On X, still known as Twitter, my article has been shared about 2-300 times over the last couple of days. Many of these have reposted a tweet by Kasper B.R.Bjørkskov posted this Monday, which has been viewed more than 23.000 times, reposted 268 times and has 600 likes. Among others, it was reposted by climate scientist Kevin Anderson, who has some 80.000 followers.

There was some activity on Twitter in response to our joint chronicle "Forskning for klimavennlig omstilling" [Research for climate-friendly restructuring], published in the online magazine Energi og Klima. As of today there seems to be 44 tweets linking to the chronicle as published there. This includes supportive tweets from two members of parliament, Rasmus Hansson (the Green Party of Norway, MDG) and Alf Holmelid (the Socialist Left Party, SV), as well as Beate Sjåfjell, head of Concerned Scientists Norway (where I am a member).

Twitter update

I've updated profile info and image(s) for my Twitter alias, @sporfilosofen.

To date I've posted 1,032 tweets, and have 236 followers. Not so much. Mostly tweeting in Norwegian, occasionally in English. But not really tweeting much at all lately (the summer of 2011 was an exception, due to the terror in Norway).

Chronicle on petroleum research linked to by student NGO, tweeted about by environmental NGOs and research ethics committees

My chronicle  "Hva slags forskning er etisk forsvarlig?" [What kind(s) of research is ethically justifiable?], which was published earlier this week, was linked to by www.student.no, the webpage of Norsk studentorganisasjon [Norwegian student organization], in their "NSO i media" [NSO in the media] section. They included the full text, and the chronicle in facsimile (see here).

The publication of the chronicle was further tweeted about by half a dozen people, including representatives of the NGOs Concerned Scientists Norway and Framtiden i Våre Hender [The future in our hands], plus by the National Committies for Research Ethics in Norway.
