Two meetings and a supervision session

Today I have attended the Faculty of social sciences´ leadership group meeting - the last I get to attend before the summer - and a ph.d. start-up meeting with a ph.d. student and a supervisor. I have also had the final supervision session with my MA thesis student this Spring.

Today I have attended the faculty leadership group meeting, chaired a meeting in the faculty´s Doctoral committee (my third), attended a meeting in preparation of another meeting I´ll chair tomorrow, and supervised a MA student.

Monday February 4th I:
  • composed exam questions for continuation exam in SVEXPHIL10
  • had two supervision sessions (master thesis, Master in Energy, Environment and Society)
  • attended two meetings, one related to the doctoral committee´s work and the other related to planning of the first workshop of the network for welfare research.

To supervise MEES master student

I have negotiated with Department of media studies and social science that I will supervise a Master student in the Master in Energy, environment and Society, next Spring. In return, I will grade fewer exam papers in "Philosophy of science and research methods".

Second MEE140 lecture

Today I have given the second lecture on philosophy of science in the course "Philosophy of science and research methods". Topics covered were demarcation of science and scientific reasoning. Some 60 students attended.

First MEE140 lecture

Today I gave the first lecture in the Master course "Philosophy of science and research methods", which is now followed by the students of two master degree programs - Master in energy, environment and society (MEES) and Master in urban planning (M-BYUTV), altogether some 65 students. Today we went through course information, started organizing/planning student presentations, and covered the introduction of the philosophy of science text book.

Today I have attended a meeting with two colleagues concerning the MEES course (Master in energy, environment and society) I am course coordinator for, "Philosophy of science and research methods" (MEE140), for planning purposes.

Today I attended an introduction meeting with the new MEES students (Master in Energy, Environment and Society). Teaching starts next week.

On November 17th I stopped by at the Christmas dinner event for the students in Master of Energy, Environment and Society (MEES) at University of Stavanger, with my three kids and soon thereafter my wife.

3 hours of teaching and presentation at MEES & Spire event "Understanding Arctic Oil"

Today I have been teaching for 3 hours for the MEES class, and taken part at an open event organized by the MEES linjeforening and the NGO Spire, "Understanding Arctic Oil". This was a great event, and featured presentations by myself ("University politics, academic activism and vested interests") plus three others, including Oluf Langhelle. Perhaps 80 people attended.

My 3 hours of teaching in "Philosophy of science and research methods" - one hour with teacher presentations on biosemiotics and zoosemiotics, and 2 hours of student presentations on similar themes - concludes the teaching of this course.

I have agreed to give a 10-minute presentation titled "University politics, academic activism, and vested interests" during an upcoming event on "Understanding Norway´s Arctic oil", which is to be organized November 7th by the student body (linjeforening) of the Master in Energy, Environment and Society (MEES).
