Three meetings

Today I have attended three meetings, including the "rector meeting" at University of Stavanger (first time - features the rector and vice rectors, the deans, and selected directors), and a meeting on the Faculty of Social Sciences´ research report.

Today I have attended a planning meeting in the faculty leadership ahead of our meeting with the new UIS rector next week.

Plus one more meeting.

Kåkå debate on climate change dissemination held

On Thursday June 4th I participated in a debate meeting in the series "Verdikommisjonen" [the value commission] at Kåkå - Kverulantkatedralen in Stavanger, representing University of Stavanger (rector Marit Boyesen is a permanent member of Verdikommisjonen, I was there instead of her). Topic for the debate was: "Hvordan kan folk flest forstå klimautfordringen når ingen kan lese rapporten og verken mediene eller forskerne selv tar skikkelig formidlingsansvar?" [How can people understand the climate challenge, when no one can read the report and neither the media nor researchers take proper  responsibility for disseminating?]. Some 50 people were present.

UiS debate letter: How will rector follow up NENT's statement on petroleum research?

Following up on today's statement of Norway's National Committee for Research Ethics in Science and Technology (NENT) on the research ethics of petroleum research, I have composed a letter to the editor sent to the debate pages of University of Stavanger. The letter, entitled "Hvordan vil rektor følge opp NENTs forskningsetiske vurdering av petroleumsforskning?" [How will rector follow up NENT's research ethical consideration of petroleum research?], has been posted in my Norwegian language blog Utopisk Realisme.
