Third Ex.phil. seminar

Today I have given the third Ex.phil. seminar, in two rounds, in the University of Stavanger´s bachelor in psychology, in collaboration with Anne Beth Våga from the UIS library, who covered referencing and use of sources for the first hour of the seminar. Today´s seminar was also open som student in their second or third year of the bachelor study.

Research committee meeting attended; input given to publications assessment guidelines

Today I have attended the research committee (forskningsutvalget) meeting at University of Stavanger. This included giving input to guidelines for the university library´s assessment of scientific publications as part of the Norwegian "publication points" system.

University library meeting attended

Today I have taken part in a meeting of the publication committee of the University library of Stavanger concerning a complaint on a decision to not give publication points to contributions to an anthology. Five people were present, including three from the library.

Provisionary member of university library complaint committee

I have agreed to be member of a committee that is to consider a complaint after a book (anthology) was rejected in regard to publication points by the university library of Stavanger. The case concerns 23 articles, 19 authors.

"Thinking about animals..." book of the month

Our book Thinking about Animals in the Age of the Anthropocene is "book of the month" (månedens bok) at the university library of Stavanger´s page for social work.

120 people attending critical UiS debate on petroleum research and climate change

120 people attended the open meeting held at University of Stavanger by the university library on Thursday November 6th. Of the four panelists, only Head of department Hans Borge, who does not think that there is any anthropogenic climate change, defended the status quo. The three other panelists, and the majority of the audience, appeared to favour changes in research profile and/or ethical consideration of collaboration with the petroleum industry.

The university library at University of Stavanger is arranging a panel discussion on the research ethics of petroleum research, and university strategy, on Thursday November 6th, at 6pm. The debate is entitled "Olje eller omstilling: Hvilken vei bør UiS gå?" [Oil or restructuring: In what direction should University of Stavanger go?].
