Publication points 2023 - #6 at department; #2 among professors

I have just looked at the publication points results at my department and faculty for 2023. With 3,4 publication points, from 2 journal articles and 2 book chapters, I rank as #6 at University of Stavanger´s Department of social studies in terms of publication points overall, and #2 among professors employed at the department.

With 5,1 publication points, Sarah Hean (professor of social work) had the most publication points among the professors of the department. With 6,5 publication points, Francesco Margoni (associate professor of psychology) did best by this measure overall.

I´ve had a look at the most cited scholars at University of Stavanger´s Department of social studies, where I work, according to Google Scholar. All 453 University of Stavanger profiles can be found in ranked order here. With 1088 citations, I currently rank as #7 at Department of social studies, and as #117 at University of Stavanger overall.

I am the 4th most-cited Professor at Department of social studies, after Head of department and Professor Kolbjørn Brønnick (#5 at University of Stavanger overall), Professor Sarah Hean (#40 at University of Stavanger overall) and Professor Nicolay Gausel (#67 at University of Stavanger overall). 

Of the 10 most-cited scholars at Department of social studies, 8 work in psychology. The only exceptions on the top 10 are Sarah Hean and myself. Five scholars from my department feature among the 100 most-cited scholars at University of Stavanger - these are: Kolbjørn Brønnick, Sarah Hean, Nicolay Gausel, Bianka Karshikoff (#80 at University of Stavanger overall) and Lilla Magyari (#97 at University of Stavanger overall). Danilo Garcia is the second-most cited scholar at the department, but does not yet have a University of Stavanger profile at Google Scholar. Altogether I am one of 11 scholars at Department of social studies who feature among the University of Stavanger´s 200 most-cited scholars.

I appear to be the most-cited philosopher at University of Stavanger.

Two meetings and a 50% seminar

Today I have attended another BOA project meeting, and a meeting related to Cognitive lab and Norsk kokebokmuseum. 

I have also participated at the 50% seminar (mid-way evaluation) for Emilie Bryne´s ph.d. project, as opponent. Some 20 people followed the event digitally.

On Wednesday September 30th at 10-12, I will be first opponent at the 50 % (mid-way) seminar of ph.d. candidate Emilie Bryne, whose ph.d. project is entitled "A realist evaluation of a dental service for people who have been victims of torture, abuse or suffer from dental phobia (TADA)" (main supervisor: Sarah Hean). The event will be streamed via Microsoft Teams.

Two meetings and a symposium opening

Today I have taken part, along with Head of Department of social studies, in opening the annual meeting and symposium of the COLAB network, "Collaboration within criminal justice services", a EU Horizon 2020 RISE project which is hosted by the UIS, in my capacity as Vice Dean of Research at Faculty of Social Sciences. I have further attended the first Vice-Dean meeting with the new Vice-Rector of Research (Merete Vadla Madland), with Research Director Troels Gode Jacobsen also attending, and a research report planning meeting with a colleague.

Article, editorial, special issue on welfare (JCSW) published

Our special issue of Journal of Comparative Social Work, "Welfare in Latin America", has just been published. The whole issue is open access. I have been coordinating guest editor, and contribute to editorial plus an article of my own.

Welfare network workshop held; presentation given; chair

Today I have attended - and co-arranged, and chaired - a workshop held in connection with the establishment of a Network for welfare research at University of Stavanger. The workshop took place on Sola strandhotell, and some 40 people attended. The workshop included my presentation "Velferdsutviklingen I Norden og globalt" (Welfare development in the Nordic countries and globally) and a session on the story of Siw, featuring journalist Thomas Ergo, Sverre Nesvåg (KORFOR/UIS) and Sarah Hean (UIS).

Spring´s ninth article writing day

Today I had this Spring´s ninth article writing day, with 6 hours devoted to finalizing our editorial for Journal of Comparative Social Work "Welfare in Latin America and the Nordic countries - editorial notes" (co-written with Sarah Hean, Siv Oltedal and Angela Pena), and working on my article "Current human ecology in light of Umwelt theory - Human-animal interaction in Amazonas and beyond".

Spring´s seventh article writing day

Today I had this Spring´s seventh article writing day, with some four hours devoted to work on language editing of my article "Human development, inequality and social risks in Latin America and the Nordic countries", and first contributions to the editorial "Welfare in Latin America and the Nordic countries - editorial notes" by me, Sarah Hean, Siv Oltedal and Angela Pena, both for our special issue of Journal of Comparative Social Work "Welfare in Latin America and the Nordic countries".

Abstract evaluation and author feedback for JCSW SI

As a contact person in the editorial team consisting of four gest-editors for the special issue "Welfare in Latin America and the Nordic countries" of Journal of Comparative Social Work, I have just communicated our preliminary decisions (based on abstract submission) and author feedback to authors. The issue is to appear in April 2019.

The call for papers for no. 1, 2019 of Journal for comparative social work has been announced on the journal homepage. I am guest-editing the special issue "Welfare in Latin America and the Nordic countries" along with Angela Peña, Sarah Hean and Siv Oltedal.

Phenomenology workshop attended

Today I have attended (most of) a one-day workshop at UiS on applied phenomenology organised by Sarah Hean and held by Vanessa Heaslip of University of Bournemouth.

Draft of CFP for JCSW

I have just drafted a Call For Papers for a special issue of Journal of Comparative Social Work, tentatively titled "Social change in South America and the Nordics". Awaiting feedback from fellow guest-editors and chief editor.

Scheduled for panel participation, summary and SI presentation in Havana

Next week I will go from Mexico to Cuba, where I will take part in the "Welfare research seminar" organized by Universidad de la Habana and University of Stavanger, and hosted by UH (January 24-25th). The seminar will take place in UNESCO Cathedra at Faculty of Philosophy and History.

On January 24th, I have been scheduled to take part in the introductory panel "Welfare and Social work in Cuba - starting points for a comparison", along with Osnaide Izquierdo, Teresa Muñoz, Angela Peña, Dayané Proenza and Roberto Dávalos. In the panel will present my paper "Prosperity and welfare - a comparison of Brazil, Cuba and Norway".

On January 25th, I will take part in Work session III "Welfare research in collaborative perspective", in two rounds - first, summing up common themes from presentations and discussions, and then presenting prospective plans for a special issue of Journal of comparative social work. Both these issues will be addresses by Angela Peña, Siv Oltedal, Sarah Hean and myself.
