Wonderful world festival: Contributions during 2 events, on future humanity and free will in animals

"Wonderful world - den nordiske festivalen for filosofi og vitenskap" (Wonderful world - the Nordic festival for philosophy and science) has been held, for the first time, at and around Tou in Stavanger over the 4 last days (June 1st to 4th). I have been part of the editorial board (redaksjonsråd) of the festival, as the only one representing the University of Stavanger there. 

I contributed to two events over the last few days:

* On Thursday June 1st I took part in panel discussion following Anders Sandberg´s introduction to the topic "Fremtidsmennesket?" (future man?). The panel also featured Leonora Onarheim Bergsjø and Einar Duenger Bøhn. Alexandra Esdaile chaired. Some 80 people attended.

* On Saturday June 3rd I took part in a panel discussion on the topic "Har dyr fri vilje? Og derfor rettigheter?" (Do animals have free will? And therefore rights?), and also introduced the topic. The panel also featured Norun Haugen and Lars Risan (chair). Some 40 people attended.

I have been scheduled to introduce and take part in the panel discussion "Har dyr fri vilje - med hvilke rettigheter?", along with Norun Haugen and Martin Lee Mueller, on June 3rd, as part of the philosophy and science festival "Wonderful world", which is held in Stavanger, Norway June 1st to 4th.

Two Master defences at UiO

Today I have acted as external examiner at two philosophical Master degree defences at University of Oslo (Norun Pernell Haugen and Hilde Andenæs), both with an animal theme.

Minding Animals research seminar 2017 held; wolf ethics talk given

In the evening of Monday November 20th, I co-organized and presented at the annual research seminar of Minding Animals Norway. About 20 people attended. While my presentation was entitled "Merket for livet - Etiske spørsmål knyttet til forvaltning av og forskning på ulv" (a redo of my presentation at Vargsymposiet 2016), the research seminar also featured:

• Norun Pernell Haugen: "Lidelsen vi ikke ser - hvordan vi kategoriserer dyrs lidelse for å skjule den for oss selv"
• Martin Lee Müller: "Being salmon, being human"
• Kevin Hermansen: "Dyrepoliti i Norge og Sverige"
