Opening of NASS XII; General assembly chaired; reelected President of NASS

Yesterday I took part in the opening of the 12th conference of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies (NASS) at Vilnius University in Vilnius, Lithuania (held November 5-7th, 2021, with the theme "Meaning in perception and the senses"). In the evening, I chaired the General assembly of NASS. I was reelected as President of NASS for a third term (I have served as President since 2017), and as ordinary representative for Norway.

NASS board meeting chaired; NASS XII to be held June 17-19th 2021

Today I have chaired the board meeting of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies (NASS), via Zoom. The main issue was organizational matters related to NASS XII, to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania, June 17-19th 2021.

Prospective book plans (Hellstrand and Tønnessen)

As part of our research applications in the Baltic Research Program, Ingvil Førland Hellstrand and I have a tentative plan, pending funding, of co-writing a book (scientific joint monograph) work-titled The Futures in Our Hands: Socio-Ecological Narratives in Norwegian Science Fiction and Policy Documents. We are currently awaiting response on this Spring´s Lithuanian call, and working on our application for the Latvian call which is due in October.

No Norwegian-Baltic funding

I have been notified that our research application to the Baltic research programme (Estonian call) scheme was not funded.

"Umwelt theory revisited" presented at NASS X in Kaunas

On Friday June 30th, I presented my paper "Umwelt theory revisited - contemporary Uexküllian thought in 10 points" during the 10th conference of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies in Kaunas, Lithuania.

Semiotic confederations meeting in Kaunas

On June 29th, I attended a semi-formal meeting in Kaunas, Lithuania, for representatives of various international semiotics confederations, representing the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies (NASS). The meeting was convened by IASS President Paul Cobley, and attended by a dozen people or so.

"Uexküllian phenomenology" presented in Kaunas

Yesterday, at the 13th world congress of semiotics (Kaunas June 26-30th), I presented my paper "Uexküllian phenomenology" in the morning session of "Biosemiotics in dialogue". Some 15 people were present.

Today I have chaired two session at the 10th conference of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies, which started today, at 11.00-12.30 and 16.00-17.00 respectively.

I have just taken part in finishing the 10th newsletter of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies, along with Inesa Sahakyan. The issue includes a call for the NASS general assembly, to take place June 30th in Kaunas, Lithuania.

The last few days I have taken part in the abstract evaluation work of the Scientific committee of NASS X, to be held in conjunction with the 13th world congress of semiotics (Kaunas, Lithuania, June 26-30th 2017).

Extended abstract deadline for NASS X

The deadline for abstract submission to the 10th conference of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies (NASS), to be held in Kaunas, Lithuania in conjunction with the 13th world congress of semiotics, has been extended to December 20th. See the webpage of NASS.

On October 10th I attended - and chaired, and wrote the minutes of - the board meeting of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies (NASS). The main topics concerned deciding on and planning the 10th conference of NASS, which is to be held in June 2017 in Kaunas, Lithuania.

13th world congress of semiotics to be held in Kaunas, Lithuania, 26-30 June 2017

The 13th World Congress of Semiotics will take place in Kaunas, Lithuania, on June 26-30th 2017, cf. the congress website. The abstract deadline is November 30th 2016, cf. Call For Papers.

Quite extraordinarily, arguing that it is the most inclusive diet plus referring to a moral argument, an all-vegan diet has been chosen for the congress, cf. FAQ.

The world congress´ convenor is zoosemiotician Dario Martinelli.

13th World Congress of Semiotics to be held in Kaunas, Lithuania

in a recent communication from the International Association for Semiotic Studies (IASS), “Update on Bureau decisions and various issues arising for the Association in 2015", it is announced that the next World Congress of Semiotics (the 13th World Congress of Semiotics) will take place in Kaunas, Lithuania (in 2017). The 2019 world congress (the 14th World Congress of Semiotics) will likely be held in Argentina.

Phenomenology conference on Umwelt and social change

I have just received notice about a phenomenology conference with two topics very close to my doctoral topic: "Phenomenological Perspectives on Cultural Change and Environmental Challenges". The conference is to be arranged in Vilnius, Lithuania, September 24-26.
