UiS Head of Department´s stance on climate change attacked in Stavanger Aftenblad letter to the editor

Yesterday a letter to the editor by Professor emeritus Gunnar Kvåle was published in the Norwegian regional daily Stavanger Aftenblad, entitled "Er det greit at en instituttleder ved UiS fnyser av FNs klimarapport?" [Is it OK that a Head of Department at University of Stavanger /rejects/ the UN´s climate report?]. This concerns Hans Borge, Head of department at Department of Petroleum Engineering. Kvåle cites my chronicle, published earlier this month, "10 spørsmål om fremtidens UiS" [10 questions about the future University of Stavanger], and claims that rector of UiS Marit Boyesen (see her reply chronicle) avoids replying to my questions regarding the actuality of climate change.

In a commentary article entitled "Er norsk petroleumsforskning etisk forsvarlig?" [Is Norwegian petroleum research ethically justifiable?], published in the online magazine Energi og Klima, Professor emeritus Gunnar Kvåle (University of Bergen) cites what "Haugan og fem andre forskere fra universitetene i Bergen, Stavanger, Oslo, NTNU og Tromsø" [Peter M. Haugan and five other researchers from the universities of Bergen, Stavanger, Oslo, Tromsø and Norwegian University of Science and Technology] wrote in a recent chronicle. This refers to "Forskning for klimavennlig omstilling" [Research for climate-friendly restructuring], which I co-wrote along with Kvåle and others.

The joint chronicle  "Forskning for klimavennlig omstilling" [Research for climate-friendly restructuring], written by Peter Haugan and Gunnar Kvåle (University of Bergen), Kristoffer Rypdal (University of Tromsø), myself (University of Stavanger), Arne Johan Vetlesen (University of Oslo) and Steinar Westin [Norwegian University of Technology and Science, NTNU] was, in a shorter version and retitled "Forskning for klimaomstilling" [Research for climate restructuring] (paper version) and "Heller forskning for klimaomstilling" [Rather research for climate restructuring] (online version), published in the Norwegian regional daily Stavanger Aftenblad April 29th, as a guest commentary (alongside the editorial).
