Norway´s Council for animal ethics relseases statement with recommendations on animal ethics issues in Norway

Norway´s Council of animal ethics has released a statement to the ministries of agriculture and fisheries respectively titled "Brennende etiske temaer knyttet til dyrevelferd i Norge" (literally: Burning ethical topics related to animal welfare in Norway). Knut Bøe, Kristian Ellingsen-Dalskau and me are credited as Co-authors of the statement (14 pp.). The statement was written in response to the ministries´ work with the government´s forthcoming parliamentary notice on animal welfare.

Reappointed a member of Council for animal ethics for the period 2023-2027

Today I was informed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food that I have been reappointed to Norway´s Council for animal ethics, where I have served since 2017, for the period 2023-2027, as a representative for the animal protection NGOs. The appointment is valid from July 18th 2023 (i.e., today) until June 30th 2027.

Last Council for animal ethics meeting in this round attended

Last Friday, May 5th, I attended the last in-person meeting of Norway´s Council for animal ethics in this round. A new Council is soon to be appointed. The last meeting was devoted to discussing the council´s proposals to the ministries of agriculture and fisheries related to the government´s forthcoming animal welfare parliamentary notice (stortingsmelding). I chaired the discussion.

Statement on Wildlife Act submitted to ministries

I have just submitted a written statement on behalf of Norway´s Council for animal ethics to Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Ministry of Climate and Environment in relation to a planned revision of the Norwegian Wildlife Act (Viltloven).

Participation at ministries input meeting on revision of wildlife law on behalf of Council for animal ethics

Today I have represented Norway´s Council for animal ethics in an online input meeting (innspillsmøte) held by Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Ministry of Climate and Environment in relation to the ministries´ planned revision on hunting and capture of wildlife (Viltloven - the wildlife law). I had 5 minutes to present my input on behalf on the council. I will also prepare written feedback to the ministries (to be discussed in Council for animal ethics before it is sent).

Some 50 people attended the input meeting.

First meeting of new Council for animal ethics

Today I have attended the first meeting of Norway´s new Council for Animal Ethics (appointed for a 4 year period, starting now), a full-day meeting. The new council leader is Knut Bøe (NMBU), Kristian Ellingsen remains the council secretary. I represent the animal protection NGOs, with Guri Larsen being deputy representative. The council members are appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

Appointed as member of Norway´s Council for animal ethics 2019-2023

Today I have been notified by Norway´s Ministry of Agriculture and Food that I have been appointed as a member of Council for Animal Ethics for the period July 1st 2019 to June 30th 2023 as the representative for animal protection NGOs, with Guri Larsen as deputy member. I served in the same position 2017-2018.
