I have recently, in several rounds, updated my CV (now 18 pp). The version as of yesterday has now been uploaded to Scribd in PDF format - see here. This is the first public update of my CV since 2013.

The latest version of my CV, posted in February 2013, has 944 reads. Latest online version of my bibliography, posted February 2012, has 933 reads.

Some 2 years ago only 7 documents had more than 1,000 reads (but note that some versions of my CV and bibliography may reach 1,000 + and then be removed when updated). My blog collection for 2009 for Utopisk Realisme is leading now as then, attracting close to 1,000 reads per year. The most read academic article, The Statistician's Guide to Utopia: The Future of Growth, has in comparison had only 600 reads the last couple of years combined. The bio-translator - interview with biosemiotician Kalevi Kull has had close to 800 views the last 2 years, Om fluer og filosofi [interview with Arne Næss] only 2-300.

First Norwegian Research Seminar – Animals in Changing Environments: Cultural mediation and Semiotic Analysis (December 13, 2013 – University of Stavanger)

In this presentation, as background for the case study “Representations (both Problematic and Romanticizing) of Large Mammals, especially Wolves”, I will summarise my work on wolves to date. In cultural terms, hardly any animal is as loaded with symbolic value as the wolf. A main finding in my work to date is that the wolf has become a poster boy for large predators in general, and a scape goat for certain societal developments. In consequence, what wolves are taken to signify depends not so much on actual wolf ecology as on these cultural/societal developments, which are, justly or unfairly, associated with the presence of wolves. The wolf’s vivid symbolicity in current times is enforced by the occurrence of conspiracy theories.

In Norway, the wolf as a symbol is particularly associated with the sheep as a symbol. The sheep’s symbolicity is in the Norwegian context grounded in open landscapes, which are typically taken to be intrinsically Norwegian. Sheep symbolicity is thus effectively associated with outer pastures, which have been crucial in Norwegian sheep husbandry but are now under pressure. And so it is that wolves are blamed for overgrowth (gjengroing).

Publication, reference stats 2011 (and beyond)

I recently posted that I have updated my CV and my bibliography.

Here are some bacis stats from the bibliography as far as 2011 is concerned:

* Counting as I do in the bibliography, I published 6 academic publications last years (vs. 12 in 2010, and 7 in 2009)

* I have come across 6 references to my work in 2011 (vs. 9 in publications from 2010, and 3 in publications from 2009)

Apparently I have become less productive. But alas, the publications of 2011 included my doctoral thesis. Here's an overview of how many pages I have published year by year (Tønnessen 2011f, appearing online only, is here estimated to 15 academic pages) - accumulated academic production in parenthesis:

• 2001: 9 pages
• 2003: 19 pages (28)
• 2005: 2 pages (30)
• 2008: 12 pages (42)
• 2009: 77 pages (119)
• 2010: 103 pages (222) + 242 pages edited
• 2011: 313 pages (535)

As we see, measured by number of pages I published more in 2011 then 2001-2010 combined. This includes approximately 130 pages of reprinted articles/chapters in my doctoral dissertation. But even excluding these I published about 180 pages in 2011 - of fresh material, and this is more than in any previous year. Including edited material I have by now been involved (either as author or as co-editor) in the publication of 7-800 pages of academic texts.

Altogether I have as of date listed 28 references to my academic work, 15 of which from the last two years.
