I just got my copy of the book Framing the environmental humanities delivered, with my contribution "Animals in Norwegian political party Programs: A critical reading".

I have been informed that the book Framing the Environmental Humanities, where I contribute with the chapter "Animals in Norwegian Political Party Programs: A Critical Reading" (see reference), will be released (not in April, but) February 22nd. Here´s the publisher´s, Brill´s, online info. My chapter is no. 7, and part of Part 2, "History, Politics, and National Frames".

Minding Animals Norway mentioned in Norwegian parliament debate on fur farming

On December 8th, Minding Animals Norway was mentioned in a debate in the Norwegian parliament, by our previous board member Une Aina Bastholm (Green Party of Norway). The debate concerned animal welfare/the living conditions of fur animals. Bastholm pointed out that Minding Animals Norway, "an academic network", is among the organizations and institutions opposing fur farming. Bastholm´s parliament speech is available here (in Norwegian).

"A critical reading of the mentions of animals in Norwegian political party programs" written

This night I finished my chapter "A critical reading of the mentions of animals in Norwegian political party programs" (see previous posts). In this study I make use of ecolinguistics, corpus linguistics and critical discourse analysis.

"Animal agency in politics and eco-existentialism" presented in Stavanger

Friday October 24th I gave my talk "Animal agency in politics and eco-existentialism" (45 minutes including discussion) at the 2nd research seminar of the Norwegian research group of EMP151 "Animals in changing environments: Cultural mediation and semiotic analysis", entitled "Representation of animals".

Work title and publication year of Studies in Environmental Humanities volume

The book volume which is to be published in Rodopi's series "Studies in Environmental Humanities", where I will contribute with a chapter work-titled "A Critical Reading of the Mentions of Animals in Political Party Programs", has the work title "Framing Nature". The book will be published in 2016 (not 2015 as I was previously informed).

Abstract book for Framing nature conference

The abstract book of the conference "Framing nature: Signs, Stories and Ecologies of Meaning" (Tartu, April 29 - May 3), which begins tomorrow, has been published online.

My abstract "Animals qua sentient beings vs. animals qua resources: a critical reading of the mentions of animals in Norwegian political party programs" is to be found on pages 218-219. Furthermore, all names of presenters including mine are listed on p. 4, and on p. 3 our research project EMP151 (Animals in changing environments: Cultural mediation and semiotic analysis) is listed as one of the conference's supporters.

Joining the editorial advisory board of the journal Politics and animals

A couple of days ago I was invited to join the Editorial advisory board of the academic journal Politics and animals, which will be an open-access journal publishing 2 issues per year. I have accepted.

Abstract submitted to Minding Animals Norway's 3rd research seminar; analysis of Norwegian political programs conducted

Yesterday I wrote and submitted the abstract "Ordvalg - en kritisk lesning av omtalen av dyr i norske partiprogrammer" [Word choice/election - a critical reading of the mention of animals in Norwegian political programs] for Minding Animals Norway's 3rd research seminar. My paper will be based of a linguistic analysis of the political programs of nine Norwegian political parties (21 pp).

The Norwegian language abstract of the talk has been posted in my Norwegian blog, Utopisk Realisme.
