3 hours of teaching and presentation at MEES & Spire event "Understanding Arctic Oil"

Today I have been teaching for 3 hours for the MEES class, and taken part at an open event organized by the MEES linjeforening and the NGO Spire, "Understanding Arctic Oil". This was a great event, and featured presentations by myself ("University politics, academic activism and vested interests") plus three others, including Oluf Langhelle. Perhaps 80 people attended.

My 3 hours of teaching in "Philosophy of science and research methods" - one hour with teacher presentations on biosemiotics and zoosemiotics, and 2 hours of student presentations on similar themes - concludes the teaching of this course.

Stavanger Aftenblad refers to petition (again); focus on petro-power vs. renewable energy

In the news article "Studentopprør mot oljemakt i forskningen" [Student revolt against petro-power in research], published by the Norwegian regional daily Stavanger Aftenblad March 23rd, the journalist, Ingeborg Eliassen, makes reference to last autumn´s petition for restructuring at University of Stavanger, under the subheading "Forskeropprør" [Researcher revolt]. I initiated the petition, which got 23 signatures, along with Oluf Langhelle.

The newspaper highlights the petition´s point 5, which implies that University of Stavanger should "seek new collaborators to build competence on renewable energy and improve chances of external funding on this area".

Meeting with UiS rector following petition

On Monday December 1st I was called upon to attend a meeting with rector of University of Stavanger Marit Boyesen, along with Oluf Langhelle and Ole Andreas Engen, following our petition last week for a more climate-friendly research profile. At the meeting we discussed our respective agendas and possible ways forward.
