Avlen for intensiv egglegging har medført at verpehøns har betydelige velferdsproblemer. Forskere tilknyttet GroupHouseNet-prosjektet har kartlagt statusen internasjonalt, som domineres av fire avlskonserner. Foreløpig tilbyr ikke disse konsernene alternative raser med påvist betydelig bedre velferd, og konsernene unnlater å publisere informasjon som kunne ha blitt brukt til å utvikle slike bedre rasealternativer.

Council for animal ethics statement referred in Viten

The Norwegian Council for animal ethics´ statement on embryo transfer in cattle, which I contributed to, is referred to in Viten, the newsletter of Dyrevernalliansen, #2, 2019, under the heading "Behov for embryooverføring-forskrift" (Need for regulation of embryo transfer).

Meeting in Council for Animal Ethics attended

On Monday 20th of November, I took part, for the first time, in a meeting of Norway´s Council for Animal Ethics, at the Norwegian Veterinary Institute in Oslo, as the representative for animal protection NGOs. The meeting lasted all day, and included topics such as research ethics guidelines for animal experimentation, large carnivore management (raised by me), and welfare issues in industrial aquaculture.

Proposed by Ministry as member of the Norwegian Council of Animal Ethics

I have been proposed by Norway´s Ministry of agriculture and food as member of the Norwegian Council of Animal Ethics (Rådet for dyreetikk), as representative for animal protection organisations, specifically Dyrevernalliansen and Dyrebeskyttelsen, for the rest of the period 2016-2018. I have confirmed my willingness to be appointed, and the animal protection NGOs have confirmed their support of the prospective appointment.

Guri Larsen lecture referred to in Norwegian Animal Protection Alliance newsletter

Minding Animals Norway´s video recording of Guri Larsen´s lecture at the 4th Norwegian Animal Ethics Conference, which was about cow-calf relations in milk production, is mentioned and linked to in the newsletter of Norwegian Animal Protection Alliance (Dyrevernalliansen), Dyrevern Viten #14/2016. "Animals in the Anthropocene" CFP referred and linked to in NGO newsletter

The First Call for Papers for the conference "Animals in the Anthropocene: Human-animal relations in a changing semiosphere", which is to be held in Stavanger, Norway, September 17-19th 2015, is referred and linked to in the 21st newsletter of Norwegian NGO Dyrevernalliansen (Norwegian Animal protection Alliance), which was distributed to some 5.000 members a few days ago.

Theme session proposals are due December 15th, abstracts for individual presentations March 1st 2015.

Norwegian HAS anthology recommended by animal protection NGO

The Norwegian Human-Animal Studies anthology Hvem er villest i landet her? Råskap mot dyr og natur i antropocen, menneskets tidsalder [Who is wildest in this country here? Brutality towards animals and nature in the Anthropocene, the age of Man], for which I am one of three editors, is mentioned in newsletter no. 18, 2013 of the Norwegian animal welfare NGO Dyrevernalliansen (Norwegian Animal Protection Alliance). The book is mentioned as one of three recommended titled published this year. Dyrevernalliansen has some 5.000 members.
