Concerned Scientists petition signed

Today I have signed a petition organised by Concerned Scientists Norway, entitled “Omstillingen til et bærekraftig lavkarbon-samfunn må starte nå" [Adjustments to a sustainable low carbon society must start now].

To take part in panel discussion at Stavanger climate change event

I have agreed to take part in a panel discussion in Stavanger at some point in the second half of October which will be part of the event "§112: Naturrressurser og tidsperspektiver" [Natural resources and temporal perspectives]. This event with climate change as theme, which will include an artistic stage show, will take place at Tou Scene.

I was asked in capacity of being Associate professor in philosophy at University of Stavanger and member of Concerned Scientists Norway.

44 tweets including from MPs linking to joint chronicle on petroleum research

There was some activity on Twitter in response to our joint chronicle "Forskning for klimavennlig omstilling" [Research for climate-friendly restructuring], published in the online magazine Energi og Klima. As of today there seems to be 44 tweets linking to the chronicle as published there. This includes supportive tweets from two members of parliament, Rasmus Hansson (the Green Party of Norway, MDG) and Alf Holmelid (the Socialist Left Party, SV), as well as Beate Sjåfjell, head of Concerned Scientists Norway (where I am a member).

Joining Concerned Scientists Norway

I have become a member of Concerned Scientists Norway. In order to become a member one must be a "scientific employee" and support the manifesto of Concerned Scientists Norway, which is concerned with climate change and other environmental issues.

The slogan of CSN is "researchers for a sustainable development". Their manifesto stresses the importance of interdisciplinarity, and states that such a "interdisciplinary perspective, which will address the various causes of the [ecological] crisis, and seek to go to the root of the problems, will involve criticism of aspects of our economic and social system."
